Job description

Kforce has a client in Armonk, NY that is seeking a hands-on DB2 Migration Engineer to support the migration of DB2 databases and data workloads to Microsoft Azure. This role is responsible for assessing source environments, converting database objects, migrating data, resolving compatibility issues, validating outputs, and supporting production cutover to Azure platforms., * Assess DB2 environments, including schemas, tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, functions, triggers, dependencies, and data volumes

  • Identify workload types (transactional, analytical, reporting, or application-dependent)
  • Support migration planning, including target architecture, wave strategy, remediation backlog, testing, and cutover approach
  • Use tools such as SQL Server Migration Assistant for Db2, Azure Data Factory, and Synapse Pipelines for schema conversion and data movement
  • Convert DB2 SQL, data types, and database objects into Azure-compatible structures
  • Identify and resolve compatibility issues between DB2 and Azure platforms
  • Build and support pipelines for full, incremental, and change data capture (CDC) loads
  • Validate migrated data using reconciliation queries, row counts, and business-rule testing
  • Optimize Azure performance through indexing, statistics, partitioning, and query tuning
  • Collaborate with application teams to assess dependencies, integrations, and impacts
  • Support testing phases (integration, performance, UAT), cutover, and post-production stabilization
  • Document migration designs, decisions, validation results, and operational runbooks

Requirements

The ideal candidate has experience with DB2 LUW, DB2 z/OS, or DB2 for i, along with migrations to Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, or Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2., * Strong hands-on experience with IBM DB2, preferably DB2 LUW, DB2 z/OS, or DB2 for i

  • Strong SQL development experience, including DB2 SQL and T-SQL
  • Experience migrating DB2 databases to Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database, SQL Server, Azure Synapse, or equivalent cloud data platforms
  • Experience with SQL Server Migration Assistant for Db2 or similar migration assessment/conversion tooling
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, Synapse Pipelines, or other enterprise data movement tools
  • Strong understanding of DB2 database objects, including schemas, tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, functions, triggers, packages, and constraints
  • Experience with DB2 data type mapping, SQL conversion, stored procedure remediation, and application dependency analysis
  • Experience with full load, incremental load, and CDC/change data capture strategies.
  • Strong data validation and reconciliation experience
  • Ability to support production cutover planning and post-migration issue resolution
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across database, application, infrastructure, and business teams

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with DB2 z/OS and mainframe-connected applications
  • Experience with COBOL, JCL, VSAM, CICS, batch jobs, or mainframe integration points
  • Experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, and ADLS Gen2
  • Experience with Q Replication, IBM CDC, Kafka, Event Hubs, or other CDC technologies
  • Experience with ETL tools such as IBM DataStage, Informatica, SSIS, Control-M, Autosys, or shell scripting
  • Experience with security, encryption, RBAC, private networking, Key Vault, Managed Identity, and audit requirements in Azure
  • Experience in regulated enterprise environments such as banking, insurance, healthcare, or telecom

Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
