Job description

The Creative Technology Specialist will support the work of the Innovation Garage and Digital Media Studio, two of the Auraria Library's dynamic service points. This position works directly with students, faculty, and staff of the Auraria Campus across a variety of areas including graphic design, large format printing, 3D printing, and related makerspace tools, photo and video cameras, and audio equipment. This position provides consulting services in professional resources and tools related to these areas.

As one of the primary service providers for the Innovation Garage and Digital Media Studio, the Creative Technology Specialist oversees daily operations, ensuring the consistent application of policies and procedures, supporting the work of Access and User Services colleagues, staff, and student employees.

Creative Technology Specialist What you will do:

Innovation Garage Duties

  • Provides expert consulting services in large format printing, vinyl cutting, 3D printing, image digitization, maker tools and other creative technologies.
  • Monitoring email inquiries, booking calendars, assisting users, and maintaining equipment.
  • Maintains a safe and comfortable environment for creative technology service users, thus creating a positive user experience.
  • Provides users with tools and services to bring their ideas to life.
  • Works across the Library to promote understanding and use of Creative Technology Services.
  • Provides formal and informal technology training to library staff and campus faculty, staff, and students.
  • Performs inventory, monitoring, and ordering supplies as needed.
  • Stays current with creative and maker trends through continuing education, research, and environmental scans.
  • Evaluates creative hardware and software and makes upgrade recommendations as part of continual service improvement.
  • Documents and refines workflows and other standard operating procedures.
  • Employs problem-solving and critical thinking skills to arrive at creative solutions to complex issues.
  • Ensures Innovation Garage website content is up to date.
  • Collects, analyzes, and applies data to inform decision-making.
  • Provide recommendations for equipment purchases and repairs.
  • Contributes to a positive working environment.

Digital Media Studio Duties

  • Maintains extensive knowledge of and ability to operate DMS photography, video, and audio equipment and related software.
  • Monitoring email inquiries, booking calendar, assisting users, and maintaining equipment.
  • Fulfills appointments by setting up equipment properly and on time, assisting users, maintaining equipment, and creating a positive user experience.
  • Ensures Digital Media Studio website content is up to date.
  • Assists in training other staff on DMS operations and equipment use as needed.
  • Provides informed recommendations for equipment purchases and repairs.
  • Incorporates critical research into DMS practices and services.

Additional duties

  • Member of Library committees and task forces as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Do you have experience in User training (technical support)?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, * Bachelor's degree in related discipline, such as digital design or film production.

  • 1+ years of professional experience in digital media, educational/creative technology, or related fields.
  • Customer service experience.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical or professional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience supervising a service point supporting student success in a higher education setting.
  • Experience creating and maintaining workflow documentation.
  • Experience in a library or higher education environment.
  • Supervisory experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud or related products.
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience working with image and video projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of a variety of makerspace services and equipment.
  • Inventory monitoring experience.
  • Ability to solve technology problems quickly and creatively.
  • Effective learning and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Conditions of Employment

  • Work Hours: Monday-Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm with occasional evenings and weekends, as needed.

  • This position may be performed in a hybrid or remote environment, requiring the ability to work effectively in a remote setting. This includes maintaining a dedicated workspace free of excessive noise or distractions, reliable internet connectivity, and the ability to participate in virtual meetings for extended periods. Employees must be able to independently manage time, remain stationary for prolonged computer-based work, and transport necessary equipment (such as a laptop and peripherals) between their remote work location and the office as needed.

Compensation and Benefits The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $58,031 - $64,140.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
