Senior Software Engineer (Java) - Observability Platform

We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join our core Transaction Observability team in Mechelen. You'll work in a small, autonomous scrum team building the engine that ingests, indexes, and makes large volumes of transaction data searchable in real time.

This is hands-on backend engineering at scale. You'll design and build core features, optimise performance, and contribute to architectural decisions that directly impact global banks.

What you'll do

• Design and build high-performance backend components in Java
• Work on real-time ingestion and indexing of large-scale data
• Develop advanced search capabilities using Elasticsearch
• Improve performance, scalability, and reliability
• Contribute to technical design and architecture decisions
• Write clean, well-tested, production-ready code, Your work will run in production at some of the world's largest financial institutions - this is not internal tooling. You'll be working on real-time systems, processing large volumes of data, where performance and reliability matter.

The team is small and collaborative, with real ownership and the ability to influence technical decisions.

• Strong experience building backend systems in Java
• Solid understanding of software design and ability to own solutions end-to-end
• Experience working with scalable, high-throughput systems
• A product mindset - you think beyond the code

Nice to have

• Experience with Elasticsearch or Apache Lucene
• Background in fintech, regtech, or financial systems
• Experience working with real-time or high-volume data
