Job description
- Install, configure, administer, and maintain Windows and Linux servers, workstations, and associated operating systems.
- Perform operating system upgrades, patch management, software deployments, and vulnerability remediation activities.
- Manage and maintain Active Directory environments, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), DNS, DHCP, enterprise authentication services, and user account administration.
- Provision, modify, disable, and audit user accounts, permissions, and access controls in accordance with security policies and least-privilege principles.
- Perform system performance tuning and optimization to maximize reliability and efficiency., * Monitor system health, availability, capacity, and performance using enterprise monitoring tools.
- Analyze system logs, alerts, and performance metrics to identify issues and implement corrective actions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, software, operating system, virtualization, and infrastructure-related issues.
- Support hardware refreshes, technology upgrades, and lifecycle replacement initiatives.
- Collaborate with network engineers, cybersecurity personnel, and other IT professionals to ensure overall infrastructure stability.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
- Perform system hardening activities in accordance with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), security baselines, and organizational policies.
- Support Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities and Authority to Operate (ATO) compliance requirements.
- Participate in vulnerability assessments, security audits, and remediation efforts.
- Assist Information System Security Managers (ISSMs) and Information System Security Officers (ISSOs) in implementing and maintaining cybersecurity controls.
- Monitor systems for security-related events and assist with incident response activities as required., * Administer and maintain virtualized environments utilizing VMware, KVM, Hyper-V, or similar technologies.
- Create, configure, and troubleshoot virtual machines and supporting virtual infrastructure.
- Support cloud-enabled and hybrid computing environments when applicable.
- Assist with virtualization platform upgrades, maintenance, and optimization activities.
Backup & Disaster Recovery
- Implement and maintain enterprise backup solutions and recovery procedures.
- Perform routine backup verification and restoration testing.
- Support disaster recovery planning, continuity of operations, and system recovery exercises.
- Ensure critical systems and data remain recoverable and protected.
Automation & Process Improvement
- Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, or similar technologies.
- Automate routine administrative and maintenance tasks to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort.
Documentation & Reporting
- Develop, maintain, and update system documentation, architecture diagrams, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and technical manuals.
Customer Support
- Provide Tier II and Tier III technical support for infrastructure-related incidents and service requests.
- Serve as a technical resource for end users and customer personnel., We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Journeyman Systems Administrator to support secure Department of Defense (DoD) environment. The candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, administration, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, optimization, and security of Windows and Linux-based systems supporting classified operations.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Windows support?, Do you have a Master's degree?, Clearance Required: Active Top Secret Clearance with SCI Eligibility and SAP Eligibility Work Schedule: Full-Time, 100% Onsite
Certification: CompTIA Security+ certification (DoD 8140/8570 compliant).
Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field and six (6) years of relevant IT experience; OR Master's degree in a related field and four (4) years of relevant IT experience; OR Equivalent combination of education, military training, professional certifications, and relevant experience., This position requires a strong technical foundation in enterprise systems administration, cybersecurity compliance, virtualization technologies, automation, backup and recovery operations, and customer support., * Minimum of three (3) years of experience administering Windows and/or Linux operating systems in an enterprise environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows Server administration.
- Experience managing Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.
- Experience with system monitoring, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Experience implementing security controls, vulnerability remediation, and system hardening activities.
- Experience supporting backup and recovery operations.
- Strong scripting experience using Bash, PowerShell, Python, or similar scripting languages.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities., * Experience supporting Special Access Programs (SAP) within the past three years.
- Experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS, Rocky Linux, Ubuntu, or other enterprise Linux distributions.
- Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere, KVM, or Hyper-V.
- Experience with configuration management and automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
- Experience supporting RMF compliance activities and ATO maintenance.
- Experience implementing STIGs and DoD cybersecurity compliance requirements.
- Experience with enterprise backup solutions such as Veeam, Commvault, or NetBackup.
- Experience with SAN/NAS storage technologies.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Azure Government, AWS GovCloud, or hybrid cloud environments.
- RHCSA, Linux+, VMware VCP, ITIL Foundation, or comparable certifications.
