This is a hands-on Senior role supporting a critical VMware to Hyper-V migration initiative while also providing ongoing operational support across the virtualization environment.
The team is small and collaborative, which means this person will have broad exposure across technologies and will not be siloed into a single function. They will work alongside two other onsite engineers and will also provide direction and mentoring to an offshore India-based team for day-to-day operational tasks.
Primary Responsibilities:

Own the Hyper-V environment: manage, operate, and expand the Hyper-V platform using System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) as the control plane

Lead and execute the VMware to Hyper-V migration for 50% of our clients workloads

Manage HPE Synergy Blade infrastructure and HPE Storage: understand how the full solution stack integrates and correlates

Handle day-to-day operational support including ticket resolution, VM resource management (CPU, memory, storage volumes), and change window activities

Support new application onboarding, review application infrastructure requirements, determine VM needs, and provision accordingly

Design and implement high availability and resiliency patterns aligned to SLO/SLA objectives

Lead Windows Server lifecycle management including standard images, patch governance, and technical debt reduction

Establish observability standards, performance baselines, and proactive monitoring using automation and runbooks

Drive ITSM excellence including major incident management, root cause analysis, problem management, and change governance

Manage capacity forecasting and optimization across compute, storage, and network

Define and manage backup, restore, and disaster recovery readiness, execute DR tests and close identified gaps

Enforce security hardening, vulnerability remediation, and audit compliance for the virtualization stack

Delegate tasks to and mentor offshore India-based junior engineers, provide clear direction, documentation, and knowledge transfer

Contribute automation ideas and proof of concepts to the platform engineering team, PowerShell and Ansible are the primary tools in use

Requirements
Required:
-
Minimum 6 years of experience in Windows/Intel systems administration
-
Strong hands-on Hyper-V experience in an enterprise environment
-
Deep Windows Server clustering experience - this is a hard requirement
-
Working knowledge of System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM)
-
HPE Synergy Blade and HPE Storage experience
-
Strong VMware administration background
-
PowerShell scripting proficiency
-
Broad infrastructure experience across server, storage, and compute
-
Minimum 1 year in an informal leadership or Senior technical role
Nice to have:

Ansible experience: used for automation delivery wrapped with PowerShell
-
Python scripting
-
Linux experience, Red Hat or SUSE preferred, training available for candidates with baseline knowledge

Kubernetes or container awareness, large container presence on the team, exposure opportunity available

Active Directory experience
-
ServiceNow familiarity for incident and service request management

Experience writing documentation and SOPs, important given offshore team coordination

Experience working in large matrixed organizations

Experience working with IT vendors and offshore teams
Nice to have Certifications:
