Job description

Mortenson is currently seeking a hands-on Senior Engineer - Data Solutions responsible for designing, building, and optimizing enterprise-scale, domain-aligned data products and pipelines in Microsoft Fabric using Medallion architecture. The role focuses on implementing Bronze Silver Gold data solutions, ensuring performance, scalability, and adherence to enterprise data standards.

This is a fully hands-on individual contributor role focused on design, development, and optimization of data solutions rather than people or project management.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and build complex data pipelines across multiple domains using Medallion architecture.
  • Implement Data Mesh aligned data products for domain-based consumption.
  • Implementing repeatable Data Mesh ingestion, transformation, and BronzeaSilveraGold-layer delivery patterns.
  • Apply cross-domain standards for data quality, metadata, lineage, and governance with assigned solutions.
  • Contribute expertise in Data Mesh principles and Medallion architecture to ensure consistent implementation.
  • Apply enterprise standards for data product ownership, documentation, quality, and observability.
  • Optimize Bronze/Silver/Gold pipelines for performance and cost efficiency.
  • Implement integration of non-Fabric and transitional data sources.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, data stewards, and data owners to deliver high quality Gold-layer datasets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business or computer science or equivalent combination of education, experience and area of expertise.
  • 5+ years in platform/data engineering with enterprise experience.
  • Advanced expertise in Microsoft Fabric, Medallion architecture, and Data Mesh principles.
  • Strong experience in ETL/ELT tools (ADF, SSIS, Fivetran), SQL, and data modeling.
  • Proven experience delivering complex cross-domain data engineering solutions in Medallion and Data Mesh environments.
  • Experience with hybrid source systems (on-prem/cloud/SaaS).
  • Experience with OneLake or enterprise data lake architecture.
  • Experience with enterprise semantic models (SSAS, Tabular, or OLAP).
  • Advanced Power BI, DAX, and Power Query expertise.
  • Experience with Power Automate and Power Apps.
  • Agile/Scrum experience working in cross-domain data platforms teams.

The base pay range for this role is $114,500 - $171,800. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL - 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR - 10%, Washington, D.C. - 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson's incentive plan.
