Job description
From our experience at Webflow and other category-defining companies, we believe deeply that the next generation of software will be built by engineers who can move fast, think from first principles, and use AI to collapse the distance between idea and execution., You'll work across the core Ploy platform: the product surfaces users touch every day, the agent-powered workflows that make websites build themselves, and the systems that let teams ship high-performing pages in seconds instead of weeks.
This role sits at the intersection of product engineering, AI, infrastructure, design engineering, and growth. You'll help turn ambitious product ideas into reliable, scalable, beautifully-crafted software - from web editing experiences and agent orchestration flows to customer dashboards, publishing systems, internal tools, and growth experiments.
This is a high-ownership engineering role at an early-stage startup. You won't just be handed isolated tickets. You'll work closely with founders, designers, growth engineers, and customers to identify problems, shape solutions, and ship production features that directly impact the business.
You should be someone who loves building, cares deeply about craft, and gets excited about working on hard product and technical problems in an environment where speed and taste both matter.
What You'll Own
- Core product development - Build and improve the user-facing Ploy product across website creation, editing, personalization, publishing, analytics, and agent-powered workflows
- AI-powered systems - Design and implement product experiences that let users collaborate with agents to research, generate, edit, and ship web pages faster
- Frontend engineering - Build polished, performant interfaces using JavaScript, TypeScript, Next.js, React, and modern web technologies
- Backend systems - Develop APIs, services, data models, and infrastructure that support reliable product experiences at scale
- Publishing & performance - Help ensure the websites Ploy ships are fast, reliable, SEO/AEO-ready, and production-grade
- Product velocity - Work closely with design, product, growth, and customers to turn ambiguous ideas into shipped features quickly
- Internal tooling - Build systems and workflows that make the Ploy team faster across engineering, growth, customer success, and operations
- Quality & reliability - Own the details that make software feel excellent: performance, observability, error handling, edge cases, and maintainability
- Customer-driven building - Stay close to real user problems and help turn customer feedback into product improvements
- Technical culture - Contribute to engineering standards, architecture decisions, code reviews, and a high-trust, high-craft engineering team
Requirements
The ideal candidate has:
- 2+ years of experience building production software, ideally in a fast-moving startup, product engineering, or high-ownership environment
- Strong experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Next.js, and modern web application development
- Comfort working across the stack, from polished frontend interfaces to backend APIs, databases, and infrastructure
- Strong product instincts - you care not just that something works, but that it feels fast, clear, useful, and delightful
- Experience shipping real features to real users and iterating based on feedback
- A genuine interest in AI, websites, growth, design engineering, marketing technology, and the future of software
- Strong technical judgment and the ability to make practical tradeoffs between speed, quality, scalability, and simplicity
- Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to break open-ended problems into clear, shippable pieces
- A bias toward action - you do not wait for perfect specs to start building
- High attention to detail in code, product experience, and user outcomes
- Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating closely with founders, designers, engineers, and customer-facing teams
- Comfort working in-person with a fast-moving team in New York City
- Bonus: experience with AI tools, LLM APIs, agents, prompt engineering, evals, or automation workflows
- Bonus: experience with Tailwind CSS, Node.js, Vercel, Supabase, PostgreSQL, Prisma, or similar tools
- Bonus: experience building website builders, CMS products, visual editors, publishing systems, personalization tools, or marketing/growth software
This role is for someone who wants to move fast, own meaningful parts of the product, and help build the software layer redefining what a marketing website can be.
