Job description

We are seeking an experienced Front End Developer to join a high-profile government programme. This role would suit a developer who is comfortable working on established codebases, collaborating closely with User-Centred Design (UCD) specialists, DevOps engineers, and delivery teams to iteratively improve services whilst maintaining high standards of accessibility, usability, and performance., * Develop, enhance, and maintain Front End applications using JavaScript and TypeScript.

  • Work with existing Nunjucks templates to deliver new functionality and improve user journeys.
  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of a partially built user interface, delivering iterative improvements based on user and stakeholder feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with UCD practitioners, Product Managers, DevOps engineers, and wider agile delivery teams.
  • Ensure solutions align with GDS standards, accessibility requirements, and best practices.
  • Support troubleshooting, maintenance, and BAU activities across the application estate.
  • Provide support on Back End-related tasks where required, working alongside full-stack and platform engineering teams.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.

Requirements

  • Strong commercial experience in Front End Development using JavaScript and TypeScript.
  • Experience working with Nunjucks templating.
  • Previous experience delivering services within Government departments.
  • Strong understanding of GDS principles, accessibility standards, and user-centred design.
  • Experience working within agile delivery environments.
  • Ability to work effectively on existing products and codebases, enhancing and iterating rather than building greenfield solutions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working within multidisciplinary government delivery teams.
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Exposure to Back End technologies and APIs.
  • Experience supporting live services and BAU activities.

Personal Attributes:

  • Collaborative and team-oriented approach.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced agile environments.
  • Proactive problem solver with strong attention to detail.
  • Adaptable and able to balance project delivery with operational support requirements.
