Job description

As our Data Protection & Compliance Coordinator, you will play a key role in managing the University's compliance with data protection and information governance requirements, including GDPR and Freedom of Information legislation. You will lead on handling Subject Access Requests and FOI enquiries, maintain key compliance records such as data processing activities and retention schedules, and investigate data breaches where required. Working closely with colleagues across the University, you will promote best practice through training, guidance and robust policy development, supporting continuous improvement in our data protection framework.

You'll need to enjoy:

  • Providing clear, practical advice and guidance on complex regulatory and compliance issues
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across different teams to improve practices
  • Managing and responding to enquiries, including handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Analysing data and identifying risks to support effective decision-making
  • Developing policies, processes and training to embed best practice
  • Working to your values: we care about how people behave as well as what they achieve.

Where you'll work:

In this role, you'll be based on our green campus in the north of Plymouth. This is a hybrid role, with an expectation of at least 50% of your time onsite to maintain strong campus links.

Requirements

Do you have experience in SharePoint?, We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented data protection professional to help ensure our ongoing compliance with data protection legislation and information governance standards. You will have a strong understanding of GDPR, Freedom of Information and wider regulatory requirements, alongside experience of advising colleagues and delivering training. A confident communicator, you will be able to translate complex requirements into clear, practical guidance and support colleagues across the University.
