Job description
We are seeking an experienced Front End Developer to join a high-profile government programme. The successful candidate will be responsible for enhancing and evolving an existing user interface, working within an agile, multidisciplinary team to deliver user-centred digital services aligned to GDS standards.
This role would suit a developer who is comfortable working on established codebases, collaborating closely with User-Centred Design (UCD) specialists, DevOps engineers, and delivery teams to iteratively improve services whilst maintaining high standards of accessibility, usability, and performance., * Develop, enhance, and maintain Front End applications using JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Work with existing Nunjucks templates to deliver new functionality and improve user journeys.
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution of a partially built user interface, delivering iterative improvements based on user and stakeholder feedback.
- Collaborate closely with UCD practitioners, Product Managers, DevOps engineers, and wider agile delivery teams.
- Ensure solutions align with GDS standards, accessibility requirements, and best practices.
- Support troubleshooting, maintenance, and BAU activities across the application estate.
- Provide support on Back End-related tasks where required, working alongside full-stack and platform engineering teams.
- Participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
Requirements
- Strong commercial experience in Front End Development using JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Experience working with Nunjucks templating.
- Previous experience delivering services within Government departments.
- Strong understanding of GDS principles, accessibility standards, and user-centred design.
- Experience working within agile delivery environments.
- Ability to work effectively on existing products and codebases, enhancing and iterating rather than building greenfield solutions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience working within multidisciplinary government delivery teams.
- Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Exposure to Back End technologies and APIs.
- Experience supporting live services and BAU activities.
