Job description
The Sr. Database Architect is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and managing enterprise-wide database systems to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and security. This role will oversee cloud-based database management and retrieval including structured, unstructured, and big data to align database architecture with business objectives. In addition, this role will oversee the administration of database platforms, and drive and support innovation in data solutions.
What You Will Do
- Design and oversee database architectures ensuring they meet organizational needs for performance and scalability.
- Lead and manage both cloud-based database platforms (eg AWS RDS, Redshift, Postgress, OCI) and on-site database (eg Oracle, SQLServer, Postgress) to support enterprise applications and data strategies.
- Guide and direct database automation efforts, including task orchestration and monitoring.
- Establish database governance policies, security measures, and compliance standards.
Requirements
- Minimum 8 years progressive experience in data modelling, database performance tuning, strategic and tactical planning.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- Oracle Certified Professional/AWS Database Specialty or equivalent.
- Database Management Expertise: Expertise managing both on-site databases and cloud-based platforms.
- Familiarity with database technologies for structured, unstructured and big data retrieval.
- Database optimization and Governance: Strong knowledge of database security, compliance and governance policies.
- Ability to oversee and direct database performance tuning and automation efforts.
- Innovation and Adaptability: Aptitude for learning and applying emerging database technologies, including graph (eg neo4j/oracle 23ai) and vector databases; interest in exploring innovative trends such as server-less databases and data mesh architectures.
- Leadership and Collaboration: Proven ability to mentor outsourced teams and guide cross-functional collaboration.
- Excellent communication skills to align database strategies with business objectives.
