Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Technology Technician manages building-level infrastructure and provides direct support to teachers, staff, and students. This role also integrates selected district-level responsibilities, contributing to centralized technical operations, inventory systems, live streaming, audio/video production, and support for district-wide technology initiatives., Ensure infrastructure availability and reliability: Provide the first level of troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of the network, networked items, peripherals, and AV equipment. These services are requested and prioritized through a trouble ticket system. The ticket system must be kept current with all requests, read, and prioritized within 24 hours. Refer tickets to District Technology when necessary.

Details and examples

  1. Install, maintain, and repair all networked items

a. Develop standard computer images for the school and ensure that all computers are updated or re-imaged annually. Install any user-specific software as needed (especially with Special Ed)

b. Support printers and other peripherals

c. Work with district maintenance to install Smartboards. Install the projectors and software. Maintain software and clean filters periodically.

d. Ensure all miscellaneous equipment is running (including but not limited to, cameras, sound systems, scanners, iPods/iPads, projectors, etc.)

e. Run and terminate network cabling

f. Maintain building inventory

  1. Responsible for Student 1:1 Devices and Labs

a. Repair Student Chromebooks

b. Set up new Chromebooks for students

c. Maintain lab hardware and software

  1. Support IT departmental goals

a. Attend meetings, drive improvement, communicate issues and needs

b. Cooperate & communicate regularly with the principal and staff

c. Play a key role in coordinating activities and maintaining a positive relationship between the district technology group and the building.

d. Know and adhere to UCFSD IT policies and procedures. Work with the principal to maintain compliance with the Acceptable Use Policy

  1. System Administration

a. Various Online curricula, Active Directory (limited), and Google

b. Manage IT/AV supplies

c. Work with other support staff and teachers to anticipate supply needs

d. Make recommendations to the principal to help manage the IT budget

e. Place orders for IT supplies

  1. Provide support and maintain refresh cycle for staff devices, including but not limited to:

a. MacBooks

b. Windows Laptops

c. iPads

d. Chromebooks

e. Document Cameras

f. SMART Interactive Panels/SMART boards and Projectors

g. Classroom Sound Systems

  1. Any other duties as required by the Principal or Director of Technology

Additional Duties and Responsibilities: Support technology integration

Assist staff and students in the proper use of technology. These activities vary from building to building based on priorities set by the principal and agreed to by District Technology.

Notes and examples:

  1. Help set up AV equipment for assemblies and special events
  2. Provide technical support for building activities such as concerts, assemblies, etc.
  3. Facilitate webinars
  4. Provide first-level building technology training, for example

a. Teach students and staff how to properly use IT/AV resources

b. Provide in-service training as needed

c. Assist teachers in the selection of IT materials and equipment

d. Assist students with special projects at the request of teachers

  1. Take digital photos and videos of concerts, assemblies, and other special events.

WORK SCHEDULE: 12-month position, 8.0 hours/day, 260 days/year

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS: To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill, and/or ability necessary.

  1. High School Diploma with training in the computer field; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in computers preferred
  2. Advanced skills with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and email systems.
  3. Excellent time management skills; ability to prioritize work and deliver organized projects on time
  4. Superior organizational skills; ability to handle frequent interruptions
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  6. Knowledge of office procedures and IT inventory practices.
  7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  8. Ability to work collaboratively with varied stakeholders, including teachers, staff, students, administrators, and parents.
  9. Ability to assess a situation and problem-solve
  10. Must complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements
  11. Candidate must adhere to all local, state, federal, and school code requirements for employment.
