Job description
The Department of Homeland Security is seeking an experienced Senior SQL Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing, developing, and maintaining complex SQL databases and solutions. The Senior SQL Developer will work closely with data analysts, application developers, and business stakeholders to ensure data integrity, optimize database performance, and support mission-critical applications. This role is supporting the Passenger Systems Program Directorate (PSPD) within Customs and Border Protection (CBP). PSPD supports the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and CBP critical missions, specifically screening and processing travelers at the ports of entry (POEs) into the United States., * Design, develop, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers.
- Optimize and tune SQL queries for performance and scalability.
- Develop and maintain ETL processes to support data integration and migration efforts.
- Collaborate with application developers and business analysts to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
- Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with DHS and federal standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues.
- Document database processes, structures, and procedures.
- Participate in code reviews and provide technical guidance to junior developers.
Requirements
- BS/BA degree and 8 years of related experience or Master's with 8 years of related experience; OR 4 years of related experience in lieu of degree
- 5+ years of experience in SQL development in PostgreSQL and Oracle.
- Must be able to maintain and obtain a CBP Background Investigation prior to start
- Must be a US citizen
- Advanced proficiency in writing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and performance tuning.
- Experience supporting a highly performant, mission-critical production system.
- Experience with ETL tools and data integration processes.
- Strong understanding of database design, normalization, and indexing.
- Experience with data security and compliance requirements.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a federal or government environment.
- Experience with cloud-based database solutions (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL).
- Familiarity with reporting tools (e.g., SSRS, Power BI, Tableau).
- Experience with Agile development methodologies
- Experience with CBP
- CBP Full BI
