Job description
The Smart Metering Analyst is responsible for supporting the delivery of Southern Water's smart metering programme through the provision of accurate, timely, and insightful performance and management information.
The role contributes to a key strategic initiative aimed at reducing water abstraction, minimising environmental and carbon impacts, and improving operational efficiency.
By enabling improved visibility of water usage and system performance, the analyst supports enhanced customer engagement, more effective leakage identification, and continuous improvement in customer experience.
What you will be responsible for:
Reporting to the Metering Assurance Lead, the Smart Metering Analyst works closely with the Smart Operations Centre (SOC) and the Alternative Metering Service (AMS) provider to analyse and interpret data across the end-to-end metering journey.
The role is responsible for collating data from multiple sources, assessing performance against key performance indicators (KPIs), targets, and regulatory requirements, and identifying trends, risks, and areas for improvement. A core aspect of the role involves producing clear and effective data visualisations and reports that provide stakeholders with meaningful insights into programme performance and support informed decision-making.
The Smart Metering Analyst is also accountable for ensuring that all reporting outputs meet internal standards and external regulatory requirements. This includes delivering performance reports within agreed service levels, supporting submissions to external bodies such as MOSL, Water UK, and Ofwat, and maintaining the accuracy and integrity of reported data.
Through ongoing analysis and continuous improvement of reporting processes, the role helps ensure that the smart metering programme operates efficiently, meets its objectives, and delivers measurable benefits to both the organisation and its customers.
- Reporting: Deliver timely, fit-for-purpose performance reporting within agreed SLAs, continuously improving efficiency.
- Data Analysis: Collate, analyse, and interpret data from multiple sources to report performance against KPIs, targets, and regulatory requirements.
- Data Visualisation: Produce clear and effective visualisations to provide end-to-end visibility of programme performance.
- Stakeholder Support: Provide accurate performance information to support decision-making, including submissions to external stakeholders such as MOSL, WaterUK, and Ofwat.
- Regulatory Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely data collation to meet regulatory reporting obligations.
What you'll bring to the role:
- Knowledge of performance reporting and management information within complex programmes.
- Understanding of data sources, data quality, and validation principles.
- Knowledge of reporting and visualisation tools and how they support decision-making.
- Awareness of regulatory reporting requirements and compliance in a regulated environment., In line with Southern Water's security requirements, successful candidates will be required to provide evidence of their identity, eligibility to work in the UK, criminal record check (DBS) and verification of their employment and/or education history for the past three years.
Appointment to this role is subject to the successful completion of all pre-employment checks, including security vetting.

Requirements
Do you have experience in Microsoft Excel?, * Experience in data, analytics, business analysis, or a related field.
- Experience in performance reporting or data analysis within a complex organisation.
- Strong working knowledge of Excel and reporting/visualisation tools.
