Job description
The Systems Analyst I is an entry-level IT support role responsible for maintaining daily IT operations at Primex's laboratory. This person will manage IT inventory, perform frontline help desk support, troubleshoot basic hardware/software issues, and monitor critical systems (like fax lines and the lab's online portal). The ideal candidate is passionate about IT and eager to learn, with a solid foundation in Windows systems and networking basics. This role is on-site in Van Nuys and will report to the IT Manager (Systems Analyst II)., IT Inventory Management: Maintain and track all IT assets (computers, printers, networking equipment, etc.), including updating inventory records and assisting with procurement of new hardware/software. Ensure spare equipment and supplies are organized for quick deployment.
Help Desk Support: Act as a first point of contact for internal staff's IT issues. Respond to support tickets and calls for basic technical issues (password resets, email access, software installations, etc.). Escalate complex problems to the Systems Analyst II when necessary.
Hardware & Software Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve common problems with desktop PCs, laptops, printers, scanners, and laboratory devices. Perform routine maintenance such as installing updates, replacing toner, or coordinating warranty repairs. Troubleshoot Windows OS issues and assist users with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Network & Connectivity Tasks: Assist in basic network troubleshooting. This includes checking LAN/Wi-Fi connectivity for workstations, ensuring printers and network devices are online, and reporting any site-wide network outages. Understand fundamentals of TCP/IP, DNS, and VPN to support remote connectivity issues at a basic level.
Fax and Portal Monitoring: Regularly monitor the laboratory's fax systems and physician portal to ensure they are functioning properly. This involves checking that incoming lab orders and outgoing results are transmitted via fax without errors and that the online portal for physicians is up-to-date. Promptly alert the IT Manager of any fax line failures or portal downtime and assist in basic troubleshooting (e.g. resetting fax machines or routers).
Assist with Laboratory Information System (LIS): Under guidance, help monitor the SchuyLab LIS for any interface errors or user issues. This could include checking that lab test orders from client clinics (via HL7 interface) are received and that results are transmitted correctly. Train to become proficient in basic LIS operations and data entry tasks as needed.
General IT Support Duties: Work closely with the IT team to support any ad-hoc IT needs such as setting up new user accounts, onboarding new employees with IT equipment, documenting common support resolutions, and maintaining IT procedure manuals. Ensure all support activities are logged and documented for accountability.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Healthcare privacy protection?, Do you have a Associate's degree?, Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred. (Current students or those with relevant certifications plus experience will also be considered.)
Technical Skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Windows OS (Windows 10/11) and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Basic understanding of networking (know how to troubleshoot internet connectivity, understand IP addresses, DHCP, Wi-Fi, etc.).
Familiarity with PowerShell or command-line scripting is a plus - ability to run or write simple scripts to automate tasks will be highly valued.
General knowledge of PC hardware components and peripherals, with the ability to replace parts or set up new hardware.
Laboratory Systems Exposure: Willingness to learn and work with SchuyLab, the lab's Laboratory Information System (LIS). Prior experience with any LIS or medical record system is a bonus. Understanding of HL7 interfacing (Health Level 7 standards for healthcare data exchange) is preferred; the candidate should be eager to learn how lab orders/results interface between the LIS and external Electronic Medical Records. Familiarity with data reporting tools like Tableau or Power BI is also a plus (for assisting in generating basic reports or visuals from lab data).
Soft Skills: Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail. Excellent communication skills - able to patiently assist non-IT staff with tech issues in a clear, courteous manner. Team-oriented and willing to take on new challenges; must demonstrate initiative and a desire to expand one's skill set in the IT field. Reliable and able to work on-site during laboratory operating hours.
Other Requirements
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment such as a clinical lab. Basic understanding of data privacy and security (HIPAA) when handling patient-related information (training will be provided if needed).
