Job description
The System Administrator plays a key role in the analysis, architecture & design, implementation, integration, documentation, and maintenance of IT infrastructure, including hardware, operating systems, and enterprise applications. This position is responsible for the provisioning, configuration, operation, and proactive monitoring of core infrastructure and supporting services as well as server and client systems to ensure optimal performance and availability.
A successful candidate will demonstrate a strong technical foundation, a commitment to continuous learning, and an ability to adapt to evolving technologies that support the organization's goals. The System Administrator ensures all systems-including hardware, software, and documentation adhere to established standards and best practices, while supporting both core infrastructure and end-user environments.
Core responsibilities include maintaining Windows and Linux servers; routers and switches; supporting virtualization platforms (e.g., Hyper-V/VMWare); administering directory services and GPOs; overseeing network services (DNS, DHCP); implementing and ensuring IT security best practices; ensuring operational integrity through monitoring, backup, and documentation; managing client devices, operating systems, and applications.
II. Position Responsibilities:
· Administer, monitor, and maintain core IT infrastructure, ensuring system reliability, security, and performance.
· Support day-to-day operations including provisioning, configuration, and troubleshooting of hardware, operating systems, and applications.
· Collaborate with IT team members to deliver high-quality technical support across client and server environments.
· Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions to improve system efficiency, security, and scalability.
· Create, update, and maintain comprehensive technical and user documentation.
· Ensure compliance with organizational standards, policies, and procedures, including change management and information security.
· Support directory services, group policies, LDAP, DNS, DHCP, network switches/routers, intrusion detection systems, storage, and backups.
· Develop and maintain standard system images and installation scripts for automated operating system deployments.
· Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational workflows and system performance.
· Measure system performance using defined KPIs and take corrective actions when service level targets are not met.
· Balance project work with day-to-day operational responsibilities, ensuring timely resolution of incidents and service requests.
· Identify opportunities for automation/scripting to increase efficiency and reduce operational overhead.
· Ensure the quality and reliability of services delivered to end users, maintaining a high standard of customer satisfaction.
· Maintain knowledge of industry trends and advancements to align the organization's infrastructure with best practices and emerging security recommendations.
· Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
Do you have experience in IT department experience?, Do you have a Bachelor's degree?, A) Education: BA/BS Degree in Business, Information Technology or Computer Science or related degree or minimum 8 years IT experience with increasing technical responsibilities.
B) Experience: Minimum of6+ years of technical experience in Information Technology to include 4+ years' experience supporting core infrastructure.
C) Licenses and/or Certifications (preferred but not required): MCSA, MCSE, CISSP, Network+, CCNA
D) Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Basic = less than 1 year of experience/training needed; Intermediate = 1-3 years of experience/some training may be needed; Advanced = 3-5 years' experience/no training needed; Expert = 5+ years' experience/able to train others.
Expert = knowledge of information system concepts and technologies.
Expert/Advanced = Windows Server, Active Directory, DFS, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy, Hypervisor (VMWare/Hyper-V), Switching and Routing, Security
Advanced = troubleshooting and problem-solving processes
Advanced = ability to interface with end users and management
Advanced = written and oral communication; presentation skills
Advanced = Scripting capabilities (PowerShell, VBS)
Intermediate/Advanced = programming capabilities (Visual Basic, C#, C++, HTML, Java) - experience desired but not required
Intermediate = Linux Server; bash; python - Experience desired by not required
Basic = ITIL/ITSM understanding, Ability to lift computers, monitors, servers, rack mountable storage, and networking equipment.
