Job description
z/OS. z/VM System Programmer Function Mainframe / Infrastructure, We are seeking an experienced z/VM and z/OS System Programmer to join our mainframe operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end design, installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of mainframe systems software and hardware. This role demands a deep, comprehensive understanding of both z/VM and z/OS operating systems and their associated components, enabling mission-critical business continuity and performance., z/OS Responsibilities
- Design, install, configure, and maintain z/OS operating system and related subsystems
- Administer and manage Unix System Services (USS) environments on z/OS
- Perform software installation, maintenance, and upgrades using SMP/E (System Modification Program/Extended)
- Manage hardware configuration including HCD (Hardware Configuration Definition) and IODF definitions
- Conduct capacity planning to ensure system resources meet current and future business demands
- Monitor, analyze, and tune system performance to optimize throughput and response times
- Provide installation, configuration, and support for ISV (Independent Software Vendor) products
- Manage system catalogs, DASD, and storage management subsystem (SMS) policies
- Collaborate with security teams on RACF administration and compliance requirements
z/VM Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain z/VM Control Program (CP) and Conversational Monitor System (CMS)
- Administer RACF security on z/VM environments to ensure access control and audit compliance
- Manage Group Control System (GCS) for SNA communications and VTAM support
- Configure and maintain Remote Spooling Communications Subsystem (RSCS) for print and file transfer
- Administer VM/VTAM for SNA network connectivity within the z/VM environment
- Manage virtual machine definitions, guest operating system support, and resource allocation
- Support Linux on IBM Z guest environments hosted on z/VM hypervisor
General Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues, outages, and performance bottlenecks
- Develop and maintain system documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures
- Participate in change management processes and maintenance windows
- Work closely with application, network, storage, and security teams on cross-functional initiatives
- Provide on-call support for critical mainframe incidents as needed
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives
Requirements
5+ Years (z/OS & z/VM), * Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field - or equivalent practical experience
- Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Mainframe Systems Programmer
- Proven expertise in z/OS systems programming including USS, SMP/E, hardware configuration, and performance management
- Strong working knowledge of z/VM components: CP, CMS, RACF, GCS, RSCS, and VM/VTAM
- Experience with ISV product installation and support on z/OS
- Solid understanding of mainframe hardware architecture (IBM Z series)
- Familiarity with JCL, REXX, and mainframe scripting languages
- Ability to interpret system logs, SMF data, and RMF/CMF performance reports
