Job description

We are recruiting on behalf of a growing engineering and manufacturing business for a Junior Design Engineer to join their team. The role involves supporting the design and development of heavy-duty equipment and machinery attachments, producing 3D models and engineering drawings, and working closely with production teams. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on design experience and develop your engineering career within a supportive environment.

The Junior Design Engineer role will involve:

  • Producing and updating 3D CAD models and detailed manufacturing drawings
  • Assisting with the development of new engineered products and equipment solutions
  • Tailoring existing designs to suit specific customer and project requirements
  • Preparing technical information, parts lists, and design documentation
  • Collaborating with manufacturing and commercial teams throughout the project lifecycle
  • Supporting product enhancement initiatives and engineering change requests
  • Reviewing designs to ensure they are practical, cost-effective, and suitable for production

Requirements

  • A degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in an engineering-related discipline
  • Experience using 3D CAD software, ideally SolidWorks
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team
  • A willingness to learn and develop within a manufacturing environment
  • Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Exposure to the design of fabricated steel products or structural components
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment, machinery attachments, or related industrial sectors
  • An understanding of common manufacturing techniques, including fabrication, welding, machining, and metal forming
