Job description

ING's Payment and Settlement Services ("PSS") is all about taking ING's cutting-edge payment platforms and settlement services to the next level. Our focus is on delivering top-notch payment and settlement solutions that not only meet the expectations of ING's business lines and beyond, but also ensure the essentials: safety, security, compliance, and reliability. PSS operates as an independent unit within ING's CTO domain, reporting directly to ING's Chief Technology Officer.

PSS is tasked with providing standardized payment and settlement services to various ING business lines, including Wholesale Banking (WB) and Retail. We also have a clear ambition to explore external commercialization opportunities for our payment platforms.

If you're looking for a place where we truly embrace the Agile manifesto and practice agile methodologies; where we believe the problem should dictate the framework or technology, not the other way around; and where we're dedicated to cultivating a strong engineering culture and building a high-productivity team of smart DevOps engineers who are all about getting things done, then you'll want to keep reading.

Your main focus will be on developing and expanding our existing payment engine platform, APIs, and microservices. These applications are built using Java and Spring frameworks (like JPA, JMS, Streaming, Batch, etc.) and deployed through Azure DevOps pipelines.

Your Day-to-Day

Whether you start your day from the comfort of your home or enjoy your morning coffee in our office garden, your tasks will typically involve:

  • Taking full ownership of the development, testing, acceptance, and production environments for the entire stack/platform. You'll be automating relentlessly, managing configurations with Ansible, deploying through pipelines, and scripting away any redundant tasks.
  • Having a comprehensive understanding of Regression Testing (Functional, Performance, Security), Deployments, and Operations (including Data Center failover, Backups/Restores, Security Monitoring, and full-stack monitoring).
  • Owning the lifecycle management for all components (OS, Middleware, Database), as well as security aspects (interface encryption certificates, user access, vulnerability analysis, and patching).
  • Collaborating within your Squad in an Agile/Scrum manner, working from a backlog prioritized by a Technical Product Owner, and demoing your features to the Capability Squads you interact with.
  • Enhancing application monitoring by utilizing the correct and agreed-upon event alerts (Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, Telemetry).
  • Supporting High Availability and Disaster Recovery testing.
  • Implementing and working with the latest tooling, with a keen eye on performance, stability, and security.
  • Identifying opportunities to automate existing features, performance, and security measures, as well as automating deployments, monitoring, and more.
  • Understanding the root cause of issues or gaps for enhancements and proposing practical solutions.
  • Taking ownership of issues and improvements, seeing them through to completion, and providing thorough handover when needed.
  • Assisting with technical specifications for change requests and user stories.
  • Analyzing requirements and determining their applicability within the technical environment.
  • Working on technical improvements such as automation, monitoring, environment setup, and Azure DevOps pipelines.
  • Managing continuous deployment and delivery using Azure DevOps.
  • Ensuring IT Risk & security controls are implemented and accurately documented, which requires you to be familiar with and stay updated on the ING Information Security Management Policy.
  • Complying with all internal guidelines, completing all mandatory training on time, and always safeguarding the integrity and reputation of ING., Working conditions: This job role offers a balanced split between operational (run) and project (build) work, with a distribution of 75% operational and 25% project-related tasks. To minimize the impact on business operations, some changes may be scheduled outside of regular business hours.

Do you want this too? Do you aspire to be the best version of yourself? We are delighted to support your development and invest in an environment where continuous learning is encouraged. We provide you with the freedom to innovate and take initiative. By offering numerous growth opportunities, we help you exceed your own expectations and excel in your work, enabling you to grow both personally and professionally.

Moreover, you can expect the following benefits based on a 36 or 40-hour working week:

  • An Employee Benefit Budget equivalent to 10% of your monthly income, which you can use according to your preferences. This budget allows you to purchase additional holiday days or make additional contributions to your pension.

Requirements

  • You've got over 5 years of experience rocking it in a DevOps role.
  • You're hands-on with at least one automation tool like Ansible, Chef, Salt, or Terraform.
  • Cloud Platforms: You're comfortable with Azure DevOps or Google Cloud.
  • Monitoring & Logging: Tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or the ELK stack are familiar territory for you.
  • You're a whiz with Red Hat operating systems (bonus points if you're RHEL certified!) and networking. Plus, you have solid experience with clustered environments, server management, and troubleshooting.
  • You've got experience with CI/CD tools like Azure DevOps, Git, Sonar, or Checkmarx.
  • You've worked with virtualization and/or containerization tech like VMWare, Openstack, Docker, Kubernetes, or Openshift.
  • You can automate release processes and operations using things like Python, Shell, or Ansible.
  • You're genuinely passionate about technology, always looking for ways to improve, and love using your creativity to make things happen!
  • You have strong analytical skills, are proactive, and are happy to share your knowledge with others.
  • You can organize and motivate others to grow and improve themselves.
  • You have excellent soft skills - you're communicative, friendly, curious, and a pleasure to work with.
  • You have general knowledge of REST APIs.
  • You have a good grasp of DevOps & SRE concepts.
  • You understand database concepts, especially RDBMS.

It would be awesome if you also have:

  • Basic knowledge of the Springboot framework.
  • Familiarity with low-latency infrastructural stacks.
  • Knowledge of Security and IT Risk (like SOX and vulnerability management).
  • Foreign languages: English proficiency (advanced).
  • Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree with a strong analytical background in Computer Science, Cybernetics, Software Engineering, Financial Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with Tibco EMS/MQ.
  • Experience with WebSphere.

Benefits & conditions

  • Flexible working hours and the possibility of location-independent work, depending on the team's planning.
  • 100% reimbursement of commuting costs if you travel using public transportation. If you commute by car or motorcycle, you can opt for a commuting allowance.
  • A pension scheme with a contribution rate of only 5% from your side.

Let's get to know each other.
