Job description

Tesla's Drive Unit and Drive Inverter Test teams are looking for skilled and motivated Test Engineers. The teams' missions are to validate lifetime, reliability and safety performance of inverters, stators, and drive units against requirements and standards. The team thus contributes to design and product validations.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive validation test programs for drive units and their subcomponents.
  • Execute reliability testing across various drive unit programs, ensuring high dyno test uptime, proper routine maintenance, and timely execution.
  • Oversee and assist with the set-up and execution of thermal, electrical, and mechanical tests.
  • Participate in design reviews and DFMEAs, collaborating with cross-functional teams to create validation test plans and analyze test profiles.
  • Collect and interpret data from a variety of data acquisition systems, conducting data-driven analysis to root cause failures.
  • Conduct comprehensive failure analysis by providing detailed risk assessments, test summaries, teardown reports, pictures, and data logs.
  • Design, improve, debug, and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical test equipment and infrastructure.
  • Organize and lead testing efforts, coordinate test demands to meet the needs of multiple teams and programs, track progress, and ensure timely completion.
  • Work directly with reliability and design engineers for test planning activities, including scheduling, prioritization, and specifications.
  • Document and present findings to stakeholders through detailed test reports and results analysis.
  • Manage competing demands and tight deadlines under pressure while collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive product improvements.

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driver's License Class B license?, Do you have experience in Scripting?, Do you have a Master's degree?, * Degree (B.Sc. or M.Sc.) in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, or Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience, with evidence of exceptional ability.

  • Excellent grasp of engineering fundamentals and first principles, with an aptitude and passion for understanding complex systems.
  • Experience with High-Voltage electrical systems (AC and DC) and CAN communication protocols.
  • Programming experience with an interest in scripting, automation, and post-processing of large data sets.
  • Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition setup and configuration, alongside knowledge of basic mechanical and electrical tools (voltmeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies).
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability, with the ability to adapt and change direction swiftly.
  • Collaborative mindset and excellent project management skills, recognizing the importance of teamwork and a willingness to provide support when necessary.

Additional Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of motor, geartrain, and inverter design and functionality.
  • Hands-on experience in automotive components/systems testing, including creating and executing Design Validation Plans (DVPs) and test methods.
  • Experience with data logging/databases and 3D CAD software.Driving license Class B valid in Germany is a plus.
