Job description
The Network Administrator is responsible for the administration, support, maintenance, optimization, and security of the organization's network and communication infrastructure across all locations. This role provides operational ownership of networking technologies including firewalls/security appliances, switching, wireless infrastructure, endpoint security management, and Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) solution.
The Network Administrator works closely with Infrastructure, Help Desk/Desktop Support, Clinical Operations, EMR/EHR teams, and third-party vendors to ensure secure, stable, and highly available connectivity that supports patient care, business operations, and organizational growth.
This position requires strong technical troubleshooting abilities, proactive infrastructure monitoring, documentation discipline, and the ability to support a multi-site healthcare environment.
Role and Responsibilities
Network Infrastructure Administration
- Administer and support the organization's enterprise network infrastructure across all locations.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Layer 2 and Layer 3 switch environments.
- Manage VLANs, routing, subnetting, DHCP, DNS, and network segmentation.
- Monitor network performance, availability, utilization, and capacity.
- Support WAN connectivity between organizational locations.
- Assist with network expansion projects, infrastructure upgrades, and site deployments.
- Maintain network diagrams, inventory records, IP schemes, and technical documentation.
- Participate in infrastructure standardization and lifecycle planning initiatives.
Security Appliance & Cybersecurity Management
- Administer and maintain firewall and security appliance environments.
- Configure and maintain VPN technologies, remote access solutions, and secure connectivity.
- Monitor security alerts, logs, and network events for suspicious activity.
- Assist with implementation and maintenance of cybersecurity best practices.
- Support vulnerability remediation efforts and security hardening initiatives.
- Participate in incident response activities related to networking and endpoint security.
- Collaborate with leadership and vendors regarding cybersecurity improvements and risk mitigation.
Assist with maintaining compliance requirements related to HIPAA and organizational security standards.
Wireless Infrastructure Management
- Administer enterprise wireless infrastructure across all facilities.
- Configure and maintain SSIDs, authentication methods, roaming, guest access, and wireless security.
- Troubleshoot wireless coverage, performance, interference, and connectivity issues.
- Assist with wireless surveys, optimization, and expansion planning.
- Support wireless technologies utilized for clinical operations, business operations, and mobile workforce initiatives.
Endpoint Security Administration
- Administer and support Sophos endpoint security solutions across organizational devices.
- Monitor endpoint alerts, detections, policy compliance, and remediation activities.
- Assist with endpoint deployment standards and security policy management.
- Coordinate with Desktop Support and Infrastructure teams during endpoint-related incidents.
- Support antivirus, anti-malware, encryption, and endpoint protection initiatives.
UCaaS & Communication Systems Support
- Administer and support the organization's UCaaS and VoIP communication platforms.
- Manage user provisioning, extensions, call routing, auto attendants, voicemail, and related telephony functions.
- Troubleshoot voice quality, connectivity, handset, and softphone issues.
- Coordinate with vendors regarding outages, escalations, and service improvements.
- Support communication technologies utilized across administrative and clinical locations.
Monitoring, Troubleshooting & Support
- Respond to escalated infrastructure and connectivity issues.
- Participate in on-call support rotation and after-hours maintenance activities as required.
- Utilize monitoring tools to proactively identify and resolve infrastructure concerns.
- Perform root cause analysis and document corrective actions.
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers during outages and troubleshooting efforts.
- Maintain accurate service documentation and operational procedures.
Project Participation & Collaboration
- Assist with infrastructure modernization and strategic technology initiatives.
- Participate in network refreshes, migrations, deployments, and integration projects.
- Collaborate with IT leadership regarding infrastructure planning and technology recommendations.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to support operational and clinical technology needs.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior IT staff when applicable., * Primarily office and healthcare clinic environments.
- Frequent interaction with staff, vendors, and technical teams.
- May require occasional after-hours support and emergency response activities.
- Multi-site operational environment supporting clinical and administrative operations.
Requirements
Do you have experience in VPN management?, Do you have a Associate's degree?, * Associate degree in Information Technology, Networking, Cybersecurity, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education, certifications, and relevant experience may be considered.
Experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience supporting enterprise networking environments.
- Experience administering firewalls, switches, wireless infrastructure, and network security solutions.
- Experience supporting multi-site environments preferred.
- Experience with VoIP or UCaaS platforms preferred.
- Experience within healthcare or highly regulated environments preferred.
Technical Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking concepts.
- Experience with VLANs, routing, switching, VPNs, DHCP, DNS, and wireless networking.
- Experience with enterprise firewall and security appliance administration.
- Experience administering Sophos endpoint security solutions or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
- Understanding of cybersecurity best practices and endpoint protection strategies.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and modern endpoint environments.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues across multiple technology layers.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Strong customer service and communication abilities.
Preferred Certifications
- CompTIA Network+
- CompTIA Security+
- Cisco CCNA
- Sophos Certified Engineer (preferred)
- Cisco, Cisco Meraki or equivalent networking certifications preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in network closets, data center environments, and office locations.
- Ability to travel between organizational locations as required.
- Ability to work after hours or weekends for maintenance windows and emergency support., * Maintain confidentiality and security of organizational information.
