Job description

Install, modify, and repair computer hardware, software, and peripheral devices for the Information Technology (IT) Department and provide experienced technical support and diagnosis for system users, including operating systems, specialized hardware components, and specialty software applications under basic supervision. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Work in this classification requires an individual to be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily.   • Install, modify, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair computer hardware, specialized hardware components, peripheral devices, standard software, and specialty software applications.
  • Provide experienced technical assistance and training to system users and resolve problems within scope of authority and training.
  • Interview user to collect information about technology problems and technical issues, lead user through diagnostic procedures to determine source of error, and diagnose system hardware, software, and operator problems.
  • Define user problems, research and isolate error sources, implement technical solutions to resolve problems, and follow up with users to assure the optimal functionality of the users' systems.
  • Deploy new and enhanced software and hardware for County users and specialized department components, including Mobile Data Computers and data radio hardware.
  • Replace defective or inadequate hardware, components, and software packages as needed.
  • Maintain IT hardware, specialized client equipment, audio/visual equipment, and peripheral devices and perform preventive maintenance of hardware and equipment to minimize future failures.
  • Evaluate County IT systems and identify technical problems, which need to be addressed by improved technologies or updated policies and procedures.
  • Research technical issues and recommend software, hardware, components, and accessories and prepare reports on hardware and software utilization and operational issues.
  • Refer complex problems, which are beyond the skills of the PC Specialist to senior technical staff and track the problem until it has been resolved.
  • Cross-train in technical skills for maintaining IT hardware, software, database, and servers.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

  • Knowledge of technical support principles, processes, and standards.
  • Knowledge of capabilities of IT systems, including networked environments and specialized hardware and software applications.
  • Knowledge of hardware, software, and peripheral equipment troubleshooting techniques.
  • Skill in installing, configuring, testing, operating, and maintaining IT hardware, equipment, software, and computer systems.
  • Skill in using basic tools, equipment, and procedures for maintaining and repairing computers and peripheral devices.
  • Ability to assess customer support needs and implement effective solutions., professionalism and respect for others. Requirements

Do you have a valid Driver's License license?, Do you have experience in Research?, The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Independent body mobility to stand, walk, bend, and sit for prolonged periods of time and/or drive a vehicle. Manual dexterity to reach, and grasp; manual dexterity to hand write or use computer keyboard; vision sufficient to see/read; hear and speak to communicate with customers in person and over the phone.
