Job description
The Infrastructure Engineer (Storage) is an early career engineering role designed for IT professionals transitioning into infrastructure engineering. This role focuses on learning, supporting, and gradually owning enterprise storage and data protection platforms under the guidance of senior engineers.
This position offers hands-on exposure to storage technologies, backup and recovery systems, and enterprise operations supporting a large, distributed retail environment.
The impact you can have
- Assist with the operation and support of enterprise storage and backup platforms.
- Perform routine storage tasks such as monitoring capacity, checking alerts, and validating backups.
- Support backup, recovery, and restore requests following documented procedures.
- Assist senior engineers with storage provisioning, maintenance, and platform upgrades.
- Troubleshoot basic storage and data protection issues and escalate appropriately.
- Maintain documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
- Partner with managed service providers and vendor support teams by opening, tracking, and updating support cases as directed by senior engineers.
- Coordinate with other IT teams (virtualization, server, network, cloud, and service desk) to support incidents, service requests, and operational activities.
- Participate in incident bridges and follow the sun support models alongside internal teams and managed services partners.
- Participate in disaster recovery testing and operational readiness exercises.
- Learn storage concepts, platforms, and best practices through hands on work and mentorship.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in Help Desk, Service Desk, or IT Operations roles.
- Fundamental understanding of servers, operating systems, and basic networking concepts.
- Strong interest in infrastructure engineering, storage, and data protection technologies.
- Ability to follow procedures, document work, and learn complex systems.
- Strong troubleshooting mindset and willingness to ask questions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to storage, backup, or virtualization concepts (academic, lab, or on the job).
- Experience working with managed service providers or vendor support portals.
- Experience with ticketing systems and operational support processes.
- Basic scripting or automation curiosity (PowerShell or similar).

- The target salary range for this role is: $60,000 - $75,000

- Remote: This position works remotely. Occasional travel to a company office may be required. Preference will be given to candidates in Columbus, OH, Hingham, MA or Ft. Myers, FL areas.
