This role combines strategic oversight with deep technical delivery, supporting infrastructure architecture, automation, incident response, compliance, documentation, operational handover and project execution.

Your Impact in this position

You will influence the stability, performance and future shape of core IT services. Working closely with technical teams, vendors and stakeholders, you will identify opportunities to modernise systems, reduce manual effort, strengthen governance and improve service resilience. Your expertise will help ensure infrastructure decisions are aligned to business priorities, security expectations, operational standards and long-term value.

Core Capabilities

  • Infrastructure Strategy & Design: Design, maintain and optimise enterprise infrastructure to deliver high availability, performance and reliability across cloud, datacentre and on-premises platforms.
  • Technology Evaluation & Adoption: Assess emerging and advanced infrastructure technologies, recommend fit-for-purpose solutions and support adoption of platforms that improve operational effectiveness.
  • Technical Leadership & Enablement: Provide clear technical direction, mentor colleagues and support knowledge transfer to ensure smooth implementation and operational handover.
  • Documentation, Standards & Governance: Maintain technical documentation, define standards and support consistent processes that strengthen operational quality and compliance.
  • Automation, Resilience & Incident Response: Drive automation, improve provisioning and workflows, and support incident response approaches that protect service integrity and reduce manual intervention.
  • Project Delivery & Stakeholder Engagement: Lead complex infrastructure projects, manage risk, budget and timelines, and communicate confidently with stakeholders and senior leadership.

Requirements

Ready to shape resilient, secure and high-performing IT infrastructure in a technically demanding environment? This is a senior opportunity for an accomplished Systems Engineer II who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges, influencing technical direction and improving platforms across cloud, datacentre and on-premises environments., You will bring substantial senior-level experience in systems administration, infrastructure engineering or a similar technical role, ideally supported by a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent practical experience.

You will also have:

  • Hardware Expertise: Advanced understanding of enterprise-grade servers (Cisco UCS Chassis and Blades, Dell), storage solutions and configurations (Pure, Qumulo), and data center networking (Cisco switches).
  • Cloud File Storage Solutions: Proficiency in managing cloud file storage platforms such as Nasuni, Azure Files, Qumulo, and Egnyte.
  • Cloud Infrastructure Management: Significant experience with virtual machines, storage, networking, containerisation (Docker), and AI technologies on platforms including Azure and AWS.
  • Virtualisation Technologies: Expert-level knowledge of VMware and other hypervisor environments.
  • Operating Systems Expertise: Thorough familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Backup and Recovery Solutions: Hands-on expertise with enterprise backup solutions, particularly Commvault.
  • Scripting and Automation: Strong skills in PowerShell scripting, enabling effective task automation and system management.
  • DaaS: Hands-on expertise with VDI solutions (Citrix and VDA)
  • Comprehensive understanding of LAN, WAN, network security protocols, and firewall configuration.
  • In-depth expertise in Cisco networking technologies and protocols, including TCP/IP, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, Storage Zoning, and FCoE.

Working Environment
