Job description
- Own end-to-end design, development, and operation of distributed services processing millions of requests per second at 99.999% availability
- Lead and participate in design reviews for API gateway features including routing, throttling, caching, and protocol translation
- Investigate and resolve production incidents; participate in on-call rotation for mission-critical services
- Drive performance analysis and optimization to meet low single-digit millisecond latency targets and minimize added latency
- Champion engineering quality through automated testing, ensuring services are clean, well-factored, and well-tested
- Strengthen observability by improving telemetry, tracing, and diagnostics for rapid incident detection and resolution
- Mentor engineers on the team through code reviews, design guidance, and engineering best practices
- Collaborate with partner workload teams to onboard new APIs and enforce consistent design patterns across Microsoft Graph\

Requirements
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is passionate about building distributed, highly available, and secure services, with strong attention to detail and a deep commitment to developer experience. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with high-throughput, multi-tenant services and writes clean, well-factored, and well-tested code. Join our team and help developers build experiences that make their end users more productive., * Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter., * Practical experience operating high-scale services in production environments.
- Prior experience with performance analysis and optimization of web services.
- Prior experience building services which run on Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
- Expertise in .NET writing high-performance, thread-safe code for low-latency systems.
- Experience with API development frameworks such as OData, GraphQL, or gRPC.
- Experience with protocols such as TLS and HTTP.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
