Day-to-Day:

Lead design, engineering, and implementation of enterprise Windows Server infrastructure

Define platform standards, roadmaps, and lifecycle strategies

Develop Windows Server build standards, golden images, and hardened configurations

Implement automation using PowerShell, Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD pipelines

Own Group Policy standards in partnership with Active Directory teams

Oversee patching strategies, maintenance cycles, and lifecycle management
-
Support security hardening, compliance efforts, and vulnerability remediation
-
Troubleshoot complex performance, stability, and infrastructure issues

Define hosting standards for enterprise applications (monitoring, backup, security)

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (cloud, security, app teams, infrastructure)

Participate in architecture/design reviews and governance processes, Insight Global is seeking a Principal Engineer, Windows Infrastructure for a leading enterprise client. This candidate will serve as a senior technical leader responsible for designing, standardizing, and optimizing Windows Server environments across the organization. The role focuses heavily on automation, infrastructure-as-code, platform engineering, and lifecycle strategy rather than routine administration. This individual will partner closely with infrastructure, security, and application teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing Windows Server solutions. They will play a key role in defining enterprise standards, driving modernization initiatives, and ensuring the environment aligns with evolving business and cybersecurity requirements. This is an ideal opportunity for a highly experienced engineer who enjoys both hands-on technical work and shaping long-term infrastructure strategy in a complex enterprise environment.
Requirements
10+ years of infrastructure engineering experience

5+ years of hands-on Windows Server engineering in enterprise environments

Deep expertise in Windows Server (build, configuration, patching, troubleshooting, performance tuning)

Strong PowerShell scripting and automation experience

Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, Ansible, Packer, Git, CI/CD)

Experience building golden images, hardened templates, and automated deployments
-
Knowledge of Windows Server security hardening and compliance (CIS, NIST)
-
Advanced troubleshooting across Windows internals (event logs, registry, networking, services, storage)
-
Experience managing Group Policy Objects (GPOs) with Active Directory
-
Experience creating infrastructure standards, roadmaps, lifecycle strategies, and documentation
-
Experience leading technical projects and working cross-functionally with stakeholders - Azure or Azure Local experience

Experience supporting SQL Server infrastructure

Citrix environment experience
-
Strong knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy
-
Backup/recovery experience (e.g., Rubrik)

Experience with Failover Clustering, IIS, Windows Admin Center

Familiarity with troubleshooting tools (PerfMon, ProcMon, Wireshark)

Experience with enterprise monitoring and observability tools

Background in regulated or security-focused environments

Relevant certifications (Microsoft, Azure, Terraform, ITIL, Security)
