Job description
Our client is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator / Systems Engineer to join their team supporting clients throughout the Metro Detroit area. This is a hands-on technical role responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving Windows-based infrastructure, virtualization platforms, networking environments, and end-user systems., Infrastructure & Systems Administration
- Install, configure, maintain, and support Windows server environments.
- Administer Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, file servers, IIS, and Microsoft Exchange.
- Manage virtualization platforms including VMware and Hyper-V.
- Perform server maintenance, upgrades, patching, and health monitoring.
- Support storage solutions including SAN environments.
Desktop & End-User Support
- Provide advanced desktop support for Windows 10 and Windows 11 environments.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, printer, and peripheral issues.
- Install, configure, and support desktops, laptops, and mobile devices.
- Perform hardware integration, upgrades, and replacements.
Network Administration
- Support and troubleshoot LAN/WAN infrastructure.
- Configure and maintain TCP/IP networking, routing, subnetting, DNS, and DHCP.
- Assist with switches, firewalls, wireless networking, and VoIP phone systems.
- Recommend infrastructure improvements and best practices to clients.
Backup, Disaster Recovery & Security
- Configure and maintain backup solutions including Veeam, Datto, Barracuda, and other enterprise backup platforms.
- Support disaster recovery planning and recovery efforts.
- Assist with infrastructure security and system hardening.
- Support clients with compliance initiatives, including CMMC (preferred).
Client Support
- Provide remote and on-site technical support to clients throughout the Metro Detroit area.
- Diagnose and resolve infrastructure, server, desktop, and networking issues.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical users.
- Document all work performed accurately and thoroughly.
Projects
- Participate in server replacements, system upgrades, and infrastructure refreshes.
- Assist with migrations from legacy systems to modern environments.
- Recommend technology improvements that enhance reliability, security, and performance.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is passionate about technology, enjoys solving complex technical problems, and is comfortable working both remotely and on-site with clients. Successful candidates will have strong experience with Windows Server administration, virtualization, networking, backups, and infrastructure migrations., * 3+ years of hands-on experience administering Windows-based IT infrastructure.
- Strong experience with:
- Windows Server (2008 R2, 2012, 2016 or newer)
- Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy
- VMware and/or Hyper-V
- Microsoft Exchange
- Backup technologies including Veeam, Datto, Barracuda, StorageCraft, or similar
- TCP/IP networking, routing, and subnetting
- Windows desktop operating systems (Windows 10/11)
- Experience performing server installations, upgrades, and migrations.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to users of varying technical backgrounds.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Reliable transportation for local client travel., * Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Industry certifications such as A+, Network+, Microsoft, VMware, Cisco CCNA, or similar.
- Experience with Linux administration.
- Experience supporting SAN environments.
- Experience with VoIP platforms.
