Job description
The appointee will be expected to:
- Develop and maintain the central IT infrastructure, especially Microsoft-related systems, servers, storage, endpoint management, Microsoft Entra ID, SharePoint Online, Microsoft 365, Power Platform (especially Power Apps, Power Automate), integration with Azure Cloud (or Alibaba Cloud) and middleware to provide support to the University's applications and services;
- Work closely with other HKU departments and oversee the Operating System administration of departmental servers, mainly on Windows-based servers;
- Design, develop, transform and optimize online applications or forms integrated with web applications and backend database systems;
- Liaise with and manage systems vendors/suppliers on major services, enhancements, or new solutions to meet user needs, and support business application platforms in close coordination with internal application teams and owners;
- Take ownership of system services to ensure smooth transition in service delivery and operations;
- Support the Service Desk on systems and related services;
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
We are seeking a high-caliber candidate to join our Systems Team to support different IT services and new development., Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related discipline, with at least two years of relevant experience. They should have excellent analytical, problem-solving, troubleshooting and communication skills; a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; sound knowledge of IT services and applications; and strong organizational and interpersonal skills. They should also be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of handling multiple tasks effectively. Applicants should have relevant experience in at least two of the following areas:

Administering Windows Server operating systems, application servers, and infrastructure; maintaining network, system, and application infrastructure and security

Administering Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online, and Azure Information Protection in cloud-based environments

Developing online applications, particularly using Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, and Microsoft Forms, as well as modernizing legacy web applications

Demonstrating strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and front-end frameworks, with experience in server-side scripting languages such as PHP, Python, or Node.js

Administering Microsoft Teams and the Power Platform Possession of the following areas would be an advantage:

Knowledge of and experience with AI tools, including Power Platform AI Builder, Power Virtual Agents, and Azure Cognitive Services

Knowledge of or experience in administering enterprise-grade communication, collaboration, and office productivity solutions from Alibaba Cloud, Huawei Cloud, Tencent Cloud, ByteDance, or Kingsoft

Knowledge of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), such as Sangfor aDesk and Azure Virtual Desktop

Hands-on experience with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager and Microsoft Intune

Hands-on experience with the PaperCut printing system

Hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server Always On Clusters

Basic Linux system administration skills Those with lower qualifications and/or less experience may be considered for appointment as IT Technician.
Benefits & conditions
The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years and commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 10% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
