Job description
This is a brilliant opportunity to get hands-on with the software that keeps a major supply chain business moving. As an Application Support Analyst you will be compensated with a salary of £43,000 and you'll join a growing, genuinely capable team of support analysts, software developers and QA specialists, all working together to support and improve the systems we've built in-house. Based at our Sheffield site, you'll support our Azure-hosted Warehouse Management and Transport software, the platforms our operation depends on every day. Using .NET and T-SQL, you'll dig into the code to find and fix defects yourself, or escalate to the development team when needed, all tracked through ServiceNow and Jira. Over time, your mission is a satisfying one: steadily driving down the number of known bugs and defects across our systems. No two issues are ever quite the same, and you'll be supporting colleagues across multiple sites, so if you enjoy solving problems, getting to the root of things and seeing the difference your work makes, you'll love it here. Best of all, it's a real chance to sharpen your skills and work with the latest technologies alongside people who know their craft.
- Supporting and enhancing our in-house software in a structured way, in line with our existing standards
- Getting stuck into data-handling and transactional systems, identifying and fixing defects, or escalating them to the development team when needed
- Working in an agile way, both on your own and as part of a small team, to keep our software high-quality across a variety of projects
- Joining the daily stand-ups to share your progress, what's coming next, and flag any blockers
- Always keeping that longer-term goal in sight: reducing the number of known bugs and defects across our systems
Requirements
- A real problem-solver at heart
- C#.NET or Microsoft Visual Basic .NET development, plus ASP.NET and object-oriented programming
- Solid experience with Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL, and a good grasp of relational databases and the .NET Framework
- A proven track record working on data-handling and transactional systems
Nice to have
- Exposure to Compact Framework 3.5, WinForms .NET, .NET Web Services and ADO.NET
- Front-end know-how - jQuery / JavaScript, Knockout.js (or similar) and TypeScript
- Experience of agile frameworks (SCRUM) and source control (TFS, GIT or SVN)
- A degree in Computing or a related subject, or Microsoft certification, though neither is essential if you can show us what you've done
The kind of person you are
- Confident, and someone who works well as part of a team
- A good communicator who keeps people in the loop
- Pragmatic and self-organised, with a sensible approach to getting things done
