Junior Software Engineer - Java / JVM / Kotlin

We're looking for a passionate and collaborative JuniorSoftware Engineer to join our growing team and help build innovative digital insurance solutions that make a real difference to customers.

You'll work with a modern technology stack, developing backend services in Kotlin/JVM alongside Java applications, with a React frontend. Our platform integrates with a wide range of internal and external APIs to power an range of digital products.

The successful Junior Software Engineer will have the opportunity to work on exciting new projects, contribute to the design of scalable applications, and develop your skills in a supportive, collaborative environment where your ideas and contributions matter.

Key Responsibilities:

·Design, build, test, and deliver software from concept through to production.

·Work on both new features and enhancements to existing applications.

·Collaborate with teammates to review code, share knowledge, and improve solutions.

·Work closely with engineers and Product Managers to design and deliver high-quality features.

·Contribute to a collaborative team environment and continuously learn and grow as a developer.

• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• A solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms.
• Knowledge of service-based architectures, web applications, and REST APIs.
• Experience developing and supporting production applications.
• A collaborative mindset with strong problem-solving skills and a passion for learning.
• Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools (such as GitHub Copilot) to improve productivity while reviewing and refining AI-generated code.
• Experience writing automated tests, including unit and integration tests.

Technical Skills:

• Languages: Kotlin, Java (JVM)
• Frameworks: Spring, Ktor
• Databases: PostgreSQL (preferred), MongoDB, Redis
• Version Control: Git and platforms such as GitHub or Bitbucket
• Containers & Cloud: Docker, Kubernetes, AWS or Google Cloud
• CI/CD: GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD tools
• Monitoring & Logging: CloudWatch, Prometheus, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch
• Development Tools: Jira, Gitflow, Scrum and other Agile development practices

Desirable Skills and Experience:

• Full-stack development and a willingness to work across different parts of the application.
• Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or Redis.
• Modern web technologies such as JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, or Python.
• Front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue, or Svelte.
• Testing frameworks and practices, including Jest, Mocha, Selenium, and Test-Driven Development (TDD).
• Knowledge of statistics or data analysis techniques.
