Job description
You start your morning on the plant floor at our Manchester manufacturing site, walking a process line with Operations to spot improvement opportunities. By mid-morning, you're reviewing cost estimates and design specifications for a new equipment installation, aligning safety, cost control, and startup timing. After lunch, you sync with Quality to confirm that a planned cycle-time reduction still meets all quality requirements, then draft clear operating instructions for supervisors and equipment operators. You wrap up the day preparing inputs for the capital and expense budget alongside the Engineering & Maintenance Manager and confirming training dates with an external vendor who will upskill the team on advanced problem-solving techniques., * Initiate, analyze, and integrate manufacturing process improvements that reduce cost, remove bottlenecks, and streamline workflows; report to the Engineering Manager while providing hands-on technical guidance to supervisors and operators.
- Own end-to-end projects: cost estimation, designs/specs, approvals, procurement, installation, startup, cost control, safety, and delivery to Plant and organizational objectives.
- Deliver measurable productivity gains and KPI performance as defined by the Plant Manager and Process Engineering Manager.
- Partner with Operations to solve manufacturing problems, kick off productivity initiatives, and identify long-term opportunities for the Manchester operation's continuous improvement.
- Build and roll out programs to lower manufacturing costs, optimize quality, cut scrap, shorten cycles, and minimize inventories and facility investments; evaluate feasibility of new builds or major facility revisions.
- Define processes, methods, tools, equipment, and controls that achieve optimal costs, quality, scrap, cycles, inventories, and facility investments.
- Standardize tools and equipment and provide engineering assistance to deploy and sustain standards.
- Author operating instructions and systems; consult with production and maintenance to ensure smooth integration and efficient operations.
- Assist in testing of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished product as needed.
- Verify that improvements meet quality requirements; collaborate with Quality to monitor production processes.
- Research and introduce new strategies aligned with World Class Manufacturing.
- Coordinate external vendors/trainers to build process improvement skills for manufacturing leadership; role is based in the manufacturing plant.
