Job description

Our client, a leading organisation, is looking to recruit a Database Engineer to support and enhance its critical database platforms and infrastructure.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a collaborative IT team where you'll play a key role in ensuring business-critical systems remain secure, resilient and highly available. You'll be responsible for maintaining SQL environments, supporting Windows Server infrastructure, improving platform performance and contributing to ongoing service improvements across the wider technology estate.

What you'll do

  • Administer, maintain and optimise Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL environments.
  • Manage database backups, restores, disaster recovery testing and maintenance plans.
  • Monitor database performance, availability and storage, identifying opportunities for optimisation.
  • Support Windows Server administration, including patching, updates and routine maintenance.
  • Maintain the stability and performance of production and non-production environments.
  • Respond to infrastructure monitoring alerts, investigate incidents and perform root cause analysis.
  • Contribute to cyber security by implementing secure configurations, patch compliance and access controls.
  • Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation and operational procedures.
  • Work closely with infrastructure, software engineering and IT teams to deliver platform improvements.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours support rota for critical incidents when required., If you're a Database Engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges, improving platform performance and working with modern Microsoft infrastructure, we'd love to hear from you.

Requirements

  • Strong experience administering Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience supporting Azure SQL and Windows Server environments.
  • Knowledge of backup, recovery and disaster recovery processes.
  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring, patch management and vulnerability remediation.
  • Good understanding of security best practices and system hardening.
  • PowerShell or other scripting experience would be advantageous.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across technical teams.

Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL or Oracle, Azure infrastructure, monitoring platforms or cyber security frameworks would be beneficial but isn't essential.
