Job description
The Graduate Assistant (GA) will work 20 hours per week and receive up to 24 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 9 for fall, 9 for spring and 6 for summer.
Overview and DutiesThe Graduate Assistant for the Center for Artificial Intelligence (AI) will support the Center's mission to advance the responsible and effective use of artificial intelligence across campus.
The GA will:
- Experiment with AI agents and chatbot development for potential campus implementation (no programming experience required
- Conduct ongoing research on AI applications in higher education, synthesizing findings into actionable recommendations for the Center for AI
- Provide guidance on bias mitigation strategies and ethical considerations in AI implementation
- Monitor emerging AI trends and best practices in higher education through literature review, webinar participation, and professional networking
- Serve as the student representative on the AI Advisory Committee, attending meetings and providing student perspective on AI policy recommendations, tool adoption, and/or service enhancement initiatives
- Contribute regular content to the AI virtual community space on Microsoft Engage, including discussion prompts, resource sharing, and event announcements
- Support and participate in campus listening sessions with academic and administrative departments to gather insights on AI benefits and challenges
- Research and author knowledge base articles on AI tools, best practices, and emerging trends for campus-wide distribution
- Assist with designing and delivering AI-focused professional development sessions and consultations for faculty and staff
- Develop and maintain content for the Center for AI website, ensuring information is current, accessible, and valuable to the campus community
- Support the administration of the AI Excellence Awards Program, including application review and providing recommendations
Requirements
- Graduate student in any discipline with demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence and its applications in higher education
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to evaluate AI tools and their potential impacts
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for creating knowledge base articles
- Basic research experience
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Experience facilitating discussions or workshops preferred but not required
- Familiarity with AI tools and platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot)
- Understanding of ethical considerations in AI adoption and implementation
- No programming experience required, though comfort with technology is essential
