Job description

Are you a Linux expert who thrives on maintaining massive, high-availability networks?, We are looking for a highly skilled Systems Administrator to join the team that develops and operates the UK's largest Public Wi-Fi network. Our platform powers connectivity for premium partners, everyday consumers, and mobile customers across the country. In this role, you will play a critical dual function: ensuring the security, capacity, and rock-solid availability of our existing legacy infrastructure, while actively defining and building the systems administration for our brand-new, TSA-compliant next-generation platform., You will work closely with our network and operational teams in a collaborative, agile environment. Your day-to-day responsibilities will be varied, challenging, and highly impactful:

  • Agile Collaboration: Participate in daily standups, breaking down complex infrastructure work into manageable user stories.
  • Proactive Operations: Monitor service availability, perform capacity management, and troubleshoot/fix in-life operational issues.
  • Deep-Dive Analysis: Conduct root-cause analysis on complex platform issues to prevent recurrence.
  • Patching & Deployments: Plan and execute large-scale OS patching and change deployments. (Note: This includes extending our automated patching scope and occasional overnight/out-of-hours work to minimize service disruption or handle urgent vulnerabilities).
  • Next-Gen Architecture: Help plan and define the systems administration framework for our new TSA-compliant platform.
  • Security & Testing: Apply rigorous security best practices across the platform and support our network and end-to-end testing teams.
  • Cross-Team Synergy: Work with network and systems/server teams to dimension and realize scalable production services.

Requirements

If you are passionate about sharing knowledge, hunting down root causes, and making a real, immediate impact on a network used by millions, we want you on our team., * Linux Mastery: Strong background in Linux system administration.

  • High-Availability Scale: Proven operational experience managing large-scale, high-availability platforms.
  • Virtualization & Containers: Hands-on experience with VMWare, as well as containerization technologies (Docker / Podman).
  • Continuous Improvement: A relentless desire to improve best practices and deliver exceptional operational performance.

Bonus Points (Highly Advantageous):

  • Networking & Auth: Solid understanding of IP networking and RADIUS.
  • Scripting & DBs: Proficiency in Bash scripting and using SQL for database queries.
  • Monitoring & Security: Experience with platform monitoring tools (e.g., CheckMK, Selenium) and SIEM event management tools.
  • Java Ecosystem: Knowledge of Java Garbage Collection and memory management.
  • Distributed Systems: Familiarity with modern caching and streaming architectures (Hazelcast caches, Apache Kafka Streaming Architectures, Cassandra Database Replication).
