Gordon Moore, a co-founder of Intel, famously predicted that the number of transistors on integrated circuits (microchips) would double approximately every two years. This forecast, known as Moore’s Law, held true for a significant period, driving an exponential surge in computing power and capabilities. However, there’s growing debate over whether its pace has slowed. This presentation delves into data to evaluate the current status of Moore’s Law and its impact on the practicality of data structures and algorithms used in the applications we develop.
Key Learnings: In the first 40 years of computing, CPUs were the main driving force behind most innovations. Although CPUs haven’t improved much in the past 20 years, innovation in the hardware industry hasn’t stopped. This talk teaches one of the ways that developers can benefit from these innovations.
