Scaling Databases

When your application becomes more popular and receives more traffic, you can just add more stateless application server. But for the database, this is more complicated - scaling systems with state is always complex.

Articles and blogs never explain the different approaches and their shortcomings of horizontal database scaling solutions reasonably - most often, they just try to “sell” a specific approach. But each of them has an impact on your application, and you need to build it with these constraints in mind.
