World Congress 2025

Multithreaded Node.js

July 11, 2025 09:30 – 11:30 · 120 min M6 (40 Seats)

What this session covers

The statement ‘Node.js is single-threaded’ is a simplification that hides its true power for high-performance applications. While excelling at I/O, Node’s event loop can be blocked by a single CPU-intensive task, leading to catastrophic performance degradation and systems that fail to scale. How can developers overcome this fundamental challenge to build truly responsive applications? This hands-on workshop provides the answer. Forget passive lectures; prepare to roll up your sleeves and code through a series of progressive challenges. We will begin by experiencing the problem firsthand, building a server that buckles under a demanding workload. From that starting point, you will systematically refactor, benchmark, and progress toward sophisticated, production-ready, multithreaded solutions. You will leave with not just theory, but the hard-earned confidence to implement these powerful concurrency patterns in your projects.

Workshop requirements: 1. A working laptop with administrator credentials. 2. Having Node.js installed (preferibly with https://github.com/nvm-sh/nvm o similar). Versions 20.18.0+ or 22.5.0+ are the minimum we need. 3. A working code editor (VSCode, NeoVim, Intellij… etc).
