Why Is Software Documentation Still Static – And Why Modern Browsers Deserve Better

Developers do not experience your docs and your product as separate things, but most companies still build and manage them that way.
A developer lands in the docs, jumps into the product, gets stuck, comes back to the docs, and keeps switching until the job gets done. This is not a neat funnel. It is one mental model across two surfaces. And when product copy, navigation, terminology, and workflows do not align, developers pay the cost.
In this practical session, I will share a simple framework for designing docs and product as one unified developer journey. I will cover how to write docs around jobs to be done instead of feature explanations, how to align navigation and language across product and docs, and how to support just-in-time learning so developers can learn while doing, not before doing.
I will also show how journey analytics can help teams identify where developers lose momentum between docs and product, and how small fixes such as better labels, better links, and better page openings can remove real friction.
This talk is based on hands-on collaboration across DevRel, product, design, and engineering at Scalekit. Attendees will leave with practical patterns they can apply immediately to make their docs and product feel like two windows into the same room.
