Job description

SCCI is currently seeking a Systems Engineer to join our team in support of the Battle Management System (BMS) family of projects, with a primary focus on applying Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles and tools to support the design, development, and delivery of tactical fire control systems. This role bridges systems-level architecture and software implementation, ensuring technical coherence across hardware and software boundaries. You will work closely with customers, end-users, and cross-functional teams to develop system models, define requirements, and support integration and verification activities. The ideal candidate will bring depth in both MBSE tooling and software engineering practice, with the ability to develop rigorous SysML/UML models, engage meaningfully in software architecture discussions, define and analyze message standards and interface control documents (ICDs), and support software integration activities from a systems engineering perspective. This, * Developing requirements for weapon systems integrated with air, land and sea platforms

  • Executing systems engineering best practices for requirements definition & decomposition, design and implementation of customer & end-user requirements
  • Assessing operational performance criteria and provide input for improving performance
  • Developing and communicating system plans, progress and performance results both orally and in writing
  • Developing Model Based Systems Engineering models for assigned project and contribute to the BMS MBSE Community of Practice
  • Developing, maintaining, and evolving system models using MBSE tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler and MagicDraw
  • Creating system architecture models, including block definition diagrams (BDDs), internal block diagrams (IBDs), activity diagrams, sequence diagrams, and state machines
  • Tracing system requirements, perform functional decompositions, and define logical/physical architectures within the model environment
  • Ensuring traceability from mission needs through system requirements, design, and verification artifacts
  • Generating documentation and views from system models to support program milestones/systems engineering technical reviews
  • Developing solutions for software-centric projects, incorporating hardware considerations where necessary, including concepts and requirements for Graphical User Interfaces

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) STEM degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering, scientific, or technical discipline; Or equivalent experience such as direct hands-on experience with a weapon system application in a like role
  • Minimum of three (3) years of full-time professional experience in Systems Engineering
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in software-centric Systems Engineering required
  • Proficiency in MBSE principles and tools, with desired three (3) years experience in an applied MBSE position:
  • Demonstrated experience using MBSE tools (e.g., Cameo Systems Modeler / MagicDraw, IBM Rhapsody, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalent) to create and maintain system models
  • Demonstrated experience developing SysML models including requirements diagrams, BDDs, IBDs, activity diagrams, and sequence diagrams
  • Knowledge of weapon systems, command and control systems, and rapid acquisition processes is desired
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present technical material to diverse audiences
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Five (5)+ years of experience
  • Master’s Degree in System Engineer, Computer Science, or related field
  • Familiarity with digital engineering concepts, including digital thread and digital twin
  • Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, JAMA, Jira)
  • Certification in a relevant Systems Modeling Language (SysML) desired (e.g., OMG SysML Model User, Model Builder, INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP), or Associate Systems Engineering Professional (ASEP)
  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field

Benefits & conditions

position will closely collaborate across other engineering functional areas, including software developers, hardware engineers, test teams, configuration management, training, and safety to ensure technical coherence across the full system lifecycle. This position is located in Dahlgren, VA.
