Job description

The organisation seeks an experienced Head of Software Engineering to oversee and enhance critical application and integration systems supporting teaching, research, and operations. The role focuses on ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable digital services across the organisation.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop the software engineering and data integration teams for operational excellence.
  • Maintain and improve enterprise applications and integration platforms supporting various organizational functions.
  • Ensure systems are resilient, secure, and compliant, with proper monitoring and disaster recovery plans.
  • Lead modernisation efforts, address technical debt, and promote sustainable engineering practices.
  • Establish technical standards, strategies, and roadmaps for applications, data, and integrations.
  • Support data analytics and reporting capabilities, enhancing decision-making processes.
  • Guarantee all services adhere to security, governance, and data regulations.
  • Drive continuous process improvements and elevate engineering maturity.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and vendors to meet organisational technology needs.

Requirements

  • Degree or significant experience in IT, software engineering, or related areas.
  • Proven leadership in managing enterprise technology teams within large organizations.
  • Experience delivering resilient, secure digital services and modernizing application architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of API integration, data management, and operational best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently.

Success Indicators

  • Within one month: Establish relationships and review current systems.
  • Within three months: Implement initial improvements and modernisation strategies.
  • Within six months: Demonstrate measurable enhancements in system resilience and data capability.
