Overview


We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer / Databricks Expert to help design, implement, and optimize a modern cloud-based data platform. The successful candidate will serve as the technical lead for Databricks, supporting the development of scalable data solutions while coaching data engineers and promoting engineering best practices.

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead the implementation and optimization of Databricks solutions.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Develop and optimize data models and data processing workflows.
  • Define and implement best practices for data engineering and platform usage.
  • Coach and mentor data engineers and technical team members.
  • Act as the technical subject matter expert for Databricks.
  • Implement Git-based version control and establish development standards.
  • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines for data engineering workloads.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) frameworks.
  • Produce technical documentation and knowledge-sharing materials.
  • Collaborate with architects, analysts, platform teams, and stakeholders to deliver robust data solutions.

Required Skills \& Experience


  • Minimum 8 years of experience as a Data Engineer.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT processes.
  • Strong expertise with Databricks, including:

  • Apache Spark

  • Delta Lake

  • Unity Catalog

  • Workflows

  • Performance optimization
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Experience with Java and/or Scala for data processing.
  • Advanced SQL knowledge.
  • Experience working with relational databases.
  • Strong experience using Git and version control.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Fluent Dutch (CEFR C2 level).

Preferred Qualifications


  • Databricks certification (Associate or Professional) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with data architecture.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Experience coaching or mentoring technical teams.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud.
  • Knowledge of R and statistics.
  • Experience working in public sector environments is an advantage.
