Job description

We’re looking for a Data Analyst to join our growing data team at Octopus Legacy. You’ll play a central role in helping teams across the business make smarter, faster, more informed decisions.

While you’ll sit within the data team, your day-to-day will involve working directly with stakeholders from across the organisation such as Growth, Product and Operations. You’ll turn messy real-world data into actionable insights, bring structure to ambiguity, and help the business better understand what drives performance.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role in a fast-moving environment. You’ll need to be comfortable navigating shifting priorities, championing a data culture, and bringing rigour to complexity.

We’re still early in our data journey - right now, the focus is on building the foundations: modelling key metrics, creating dashboards, and getting reliable data into the hands of the people who need it. As our data maturity grows, there’ll be opportunities to go deeper into analysis, experimentation, and more advanced analytics., * Act as a thought partner to teams across the business - helping them define problems, clarify questions, and uncover the metrics that matter

  • Translate stakeholder needs into end-to-end data solutions: from raw data to dbt models to dashboards in Metabase
  • Define and document clear, consistent metrics to support better decision-making across departments
  • Build intuitive, impactful dashboards that make data accessible and actionable for non-technical users
  • Deliver ad-hoc and project-based analysis to evaluate initiatives in growth, product, operations, and beyond
  • Collaborate with the data team to improve the reliability, clarity, and accessibility of our data models and pipelines
  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy - scoping projects, pushing for clarity, and challenging assumptions when needed
  • Contribute to a culture of curiosity and rigour, laying the groundwork for more advanced analytics and data science over time

Requirements

  • You have 2+ years of experience in a data analytics role, ideally in a startup or a company building out its data capability
  • You’re proficient in SQL and have worked with BI tools (like Metabase, Looker, or Tableau) to build dashboards that help teams make better decisions
  • You have hands-on experience with dbt or similar tools, and a solid understanding of data modelling best practices
  • You’re comfortable working with messy or incomplete data, and know how to turn it into something clean, structured, and useful
  • You enjoy working with non-technical stakeholders - you ask thoughtful questions, clarify ambiguous requests, and help teams think through what they really need
  • You take ownership of your work, are comfortable scoping projects with limited direction, and aren’t afraid to challenge assumptions
  • You’re curious, pragmatic, and excited by the idea of shaping a modern data function from the ground up
  • Bonus: you have an interest in experimentation or data science, and are keen to grow into more advanced analytics over time, * Strong curiosity and proactive mindset, with the ability to independently explore data, ask the right questions, identify opportunities, and drive projects forward without requiring constant guidance.
  • Experience in data analytics and the ability to extract actionable insights from complex datasets.
  • Proficiency with SQL, dbt python is desirable.
  • Proven ability to work closely with business stakeholders and translate their needs into data-driven solutions.
  • Experience in developing reports and dashboards to monitor key metrics.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to present complex data in a way that is understandable and actionable for non-technical stakeholders across departments.
  • Proficiency with data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, Metabase).

Nice to haves/we can work on these:

  • Basic programming skills in languages such as Python.
  • Understanding of statistical methods and their application to business problems.
  • Experience working in a startup or fast-paced environment.

Bonus if you:

  • You have a basic understanding of Data Science concepts and are interested in learning more.
  • You have experience in training or educating non-technical teams on data literacy.

Benefits & conditions

  • Octopus share incentive scheme.
  • Hybrid working (London Bridge).
  • Flexible holiday + extra day off for your Birthday.
  • Work from anywhere in the world for up to 4 weeks per year.
  • Vitality Health & Life Insurance.
  • Pension scheme.
  • Enhanced parental leave.
  • Free Will & LPAs + discounts on other Octopus services.

About the company

We’re Octopus Legacy: one of the fastest growing tech companies in the country, part of the UK’s most exciting and best-trusted group (you may have heard of some of our sister companies…) and we have a mission.

We’re on a path to scale, aiming to become a household name while transforming a long-established industry and helping our customers prepare for, and find support after, death.

But we can’t do it alone, and that’s why we’re assembling a team of top performers to build with us., When people think about planning for death they think about wills, life insurance and funerals. We take these cold processes and turn them into something more human. Share more than money: leave voice notes, music, recipes. Shape a legacy that connects you while you’re here. And after you’re gone.

Founded by Sam after his mum died suddenly, we’re a group of people who work in death because we’ve been affected by it. We know the difference a good plan makes, and what it’s like when there isn’t one.

Death can come between us, leave mess, legal fees, frustration. But it can also make us stronger. We see a world where people talk openly about death, and work out the real meaning of legacy, one that connects to them. We’re here to make that world happen.
