Job description

As part of the BSBF international traineeship scheme, and as of October 2026, we are looking for an The Position You will help the EuXFEL’s Control Software group integrate hardware into the facility’s control system, Karabo, and implement procedures therein. This includes:

  • Collaboratively develop plugins for the control system, so-called devices, that implement specific functionality or interface to hardware
  • Write and execute tests for the software
  • Design and implement user interfaces
  • Participate in commissioning of the software
  • Engage in code-review within the group

Requirements

Requirements Currently enrolled Bachelor or Master Student in STEM field. The enrollment must be valid for the entire internship duration

  • Available as of 1 October 2026
  • Good command of English as a working language is a must
  • Hands-on experience with the Python programming language is a must

Benefits & conditions

  • Remuneration: 250 € per month (currently enrolled Bachelor student) or 400 € per month (currently enrolled Master student) and, in addition to that, 10 € per day if the intern does not reside in the federal states of Hamburg or Schleswig-Holstein
  • Flexible working times (39 hours/week) and option to work from home depending on tasks
  • Partially financed job-ticket for public transportation
  • Paid round trip from home country to European XFEL for employment start
