Job description

Provisioning & Automation

  • Extend the existing production VMware Aria Automation environment with new VM templates.
  • Build reusable and parameterized templates using Aria Automation, Terraform, and Ansible.
  • Support Windows, Linux, and Intel-based macOS environments.
  • Integrate with existing CI-driven provisioning and deprovisioning workflows.
  • Validate all changes in non-production before promoting to production.
  • Assess and communicate production impact before implementation.

AWS Systems Manager (SSM)

  • Automate SSM Agent installation and registration.
  • Configure Hybrid Activations for on-premises (non-EC2) systems.
  • Validate successful SSM registration before provisioning completion.
  • Support Windows, Linux, and macOS platforms.

SentinelOne Integration

  • Automate SentinelOne agent deployment and silent installation.
  • Implement automated exclusion handling during installation.
  • Validate agent check-in as part of provisioning completion.
  • Support Windows, Linux, and macOS environments.

Security Collaboration

  • Partner with Security teams to define and validate exclusion requirements.
  • Develop and document formal exclusion governance processes.
  • Support approval workflows and token governance.
  • Ensure security compliance throughout provisioning and migration activities.

GitLab & CI/CD Development

  • Maintain all code repositories in GitLab.
  • Follow branching strategies, merge request processes, code reviews, and commit best practices.
  • Build and maintain GitLab CI/CD pipelines for validation, testing, deployment, and promotion workflows.
  • Implement Dev, Staging, and Production deployment stages with approval gates.
  • Integrate JFrog Artifactory for dependency and artifact management.
  • Deliver organized, maintainable repositories and documentation., * Packer for VMware or Proxmox template creation
  • HashiCorp Vault
  • AWS Secrets Manager
  • SOC 2, FedRAMP, or other security-focused environments
  • Large-scale VMware-to-Proxmox migrations
  • GitLab Environments and deployment tracking
  • ServiceNow or other ITSM integrations

PROJECT MILESTONES

Week 1

  • Environment access and onboarding
  • Review existing Aria Automation and CI workflows
  • Complete VM inventory and VMware dependency assessment
  • Establish GitLab repositories and Artifactory structure

Week 2

  • Windows and Linux provisioning templates with SSM and SentinelOne integration
  • Initial Security review
  • GitLab CI validation pipelines implemented

Week 3

  • Intel macOS provisioning integration completed
  • Terraform and Ansible automation workflows finalized
  • CI/CD promotion workflows implemented

Week 4

  • Security-approved exclusion process documented
  • 1Password integration validated
  • Artifactory dependency management operational

Week 5

  • Proxmox capacity planning completed
  • Migration toolkit v1 developed
  • Non-production migration testing completed

Week 6

  • Migration scripts enhanced with rollback and validation capabilities
  • Production migration pipelines prepared

Week 7

  • Documentation and runbooks delivered
  • Proxmox readiness assessment completed
  • Knowledge transfer finalized

KEY CONSTRAINTS

  • Must be available during U.S. West Coast business hours.
  • All code must be maintained in GitLab with regular commits and reviews.
  • Security approval is required before implementing exclusions.
  • Dependencies must be sourced through Artifactory.
  • Live migration is preferred where possible.
  • Production migrations must follow formal change management processes.
  • Rollback procedures must be documented.
  • All work products become the property of the organization upon engagement completion.

WORKING STYLE EXPECTATIONS

  • Proactively ask questions and raise concerns early.
  • Independently research VMware-specific edge cases while collaborating with the team.
  • Exercise caution when working within large-scale production environments.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
  • Build solutions that can be easily supported by internal teams after project completion.

Requirements

  • VMware Aria Automation / vRealize Automation 8.x (Cloud Assembly, ABX, vRO)
  • Terraform (HCL, modules, state management, vSphere, AWS, Proxmox providers)
  • Ansible playbooks and roles
  • AWS Systems Manager (SSM)
  • SentinelOne deployment and Management Console API
  • Proxmox VE administration
  • VMware-to-KVM/QEMU migration experience
  • Migration tools such as virt-v2v and qemu-img
  • macOS automation and deployment
  • GitLab repository management
  • GitLab CI/CD pipeline development
  • JFrog Artifactory
  • 1Password Vault integration
  • Bash, Python, and/or PowerShell scripting
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience working with Security teams on governance and exclusion processes
