Job description

Verus Research is searching for an Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM)/Alternate Facility Security Officer (AFSO) to lead and execute cybersecurity activities and to help safeguard critical government systems by applying hands-on ISSM experience to security governance, risk evaluation, and CMMC compliance. This position will also serve as the AFSO under the direction of the Facility Security Officer (FSO).

The ISSM/AFSO is ideal for cybersecurity professionals who have previously served as an ISSM and are seeking to transition into a dedicated risk, audit, and compliance position where they can influence security posture across multiple systems and programs. The candidate’s work will help ensure the integrity, security, and compliance of our IT systems by identifying potential risks, validating critical controls and supporting continuous improvement efforts. The ideal candidate for the ISSM/AFSO role will possess a strong understanding of NIST SP 800-53, DoD cybersecurity requirements, and control implementation / assessment practices to include CMMC readiness compliance oversight. Familiarity with Windows/Linux environments, vulnerability tools, and security baselines.

Success in this demanding position will stem from

Requirements

  • Mid-Level to Senior with 7-10 years of experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Cybersecurity or IT related field required
  • License/Certification: IAM Level III certification - CISSP: required, GSLC or CISM: recommended
  • Experience: Cybersecurity or Information Systems (ISSM): 5 years required and understanding of NIST SP800.171 Revision 2 and 3.
  • 5+ years of experience with NIST 800 53, Risk Management Framework, and secure system operations
