Job description

We are seeking a Data Governance Domain Lead to support a large enterprise modernization initiative, with a focus on Authoritative Data Source/Data Governance workstreams. This person will coordinate governance activities across Data Owners, Data Stewards, SMEs, business stakeholders, IT sponsors, security/compliance teams, and consulting partners.

This role requires someone who can provide both strategic Data Governance leadership and hands-on execution. The ideal candidate will help build, document, reinforce, and mature Data Governance practices while guiding stakeholders through adoption.

This is not a purely technical role. The strongest candidate will be someone who can evangelize, coach, educate, influence, and guide business stakeholders as the organization builds a Data Governance program from the ground up., * Lead Data Governance activities for assigned or evolving data domains.

  • Coordinate work across Data Owners, Data Stewards, SMEs, business sponsors, IT sponsors, security/compliance teams, and consulting partners.
  • Help define business data, ownership models, stewardship responsibilities, governance rules, standards, and guidelines.
  • Coach stakeholders on Data Governance best practices, Data Steward responsibilities, data mappings, data cleansing, and data quality expectations.
  • Support Authoritative Data Source decisions and help stakeholders understand how those decisions impact enterprise data quality and consistency.
  • Guide data quality monitoring, assessments, issue resolution, remediation planning, and governance-related process improvements.
  • Partner with security and compliance teams to ensure governance practices align with organizational standards and requirements.
  • Bridge Data Governance with technical data architecture by translating governance needs into clear direction for technical teams.
  • Support change management and adoption of new governance processes, responsibilities, standards, and future tools.
  • Work effectively in an environment where a formal Data Governance tool may not yet be in place.
  • Help guide future Data Governance tool selection and implementation.

Requirements

Candidates should have strong experience with:

  • Data Governance and Data Stewardship
  • Data Ownership models and governance operating models
  • Business data definition, data standards, and governance rules
  • Data quality best practices, monitoring, assessments, mappings, and cleansing
  • Authoritative Data Source concepts
  • Stakeholder facilitation and cross-functional collaboration
  • Change management and governance adoption
  • Training, coaching, and educating business users
  • Partnering with both business and IT stakeholders
  • Enterprise transformation, modernization, ERP, CRM, or cloud data programs
  • Influencing without direct authority
  • Strong communication, patience, and stakeholder management skills

The ideal candidate must understand the difference between Data Owners, Data Stewards, SMEs, business sponsors, and IT sponsors, and must be able to coach stakeholders on their roles and responsibilities within a Data Governance program.

  • Prior consulting or consulting-partner program experience
  • Experience teaching or training others on Data Governance
  • Experience helping an organization evaluate, select, or implement a Data Governance tool
  • Experience building or improving Data Governance practices from the ground up, The best-fit candidate will have experience standing up, improving, or maturing a Data Governance program during a complex enterprise transformation. They should be comfortable working in an evolving environment where governance processes, ownership structures, stewardship responsibilities, and tools may still be developing.
