Job description

Nicor Gas is seeking an experienced GIS Technician III to support the development, maintenance, and optimization of GIS data for utility distribution systems. This senior-level role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of GIS databases, performing advanced spatial analysis, supporting engineering and operations teams, and mentoring junior GIS technicians., * Maintain and optimize GIS databases for utility distribution systems.

  • Create, update, and validate GIS maps, drawings, and as-built records.
  • Perform advanced spatial analysis to support distribution planning, asset management, and outage management.
  • Oversee GIS data collection, field updates, and quality assurance activities.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and other business units to integrate GIS data with enterprise systems.
  • Generate maps, reports, and GIS deliverables for operational and regulatory needs.
  • Maintain GIS documentation, metadata, and data standards.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and training to junior GIS staff.
  • Support GIS software upgrades, system maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure data security, integrity, and compliance with company standards.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have 10-15 years of GIS experience, preferably within the utility or energy industry, along with strong expertise in ArcGIS, spatial databases, and utility mapping., * Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geospatial Science, GIS, or a related field.

  • 10-15 years of GIS experience, preferably in the utility or energy industry.
  • Advanced experience with ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar GIS platforms.
  • Experience with spatial databases such as Oracle Spatial or PostgreSQL/PostGIS.
  • Strong understanding of utility distribution systems and GIS data management.
  • Experience with GPS data collection and field mapping technologies.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead projects and mentor junior team members., * Gas utility experience.
  • As-built mapping experience.
  • Experience supporting asset management or outage management systems.

Benefits & conditions

$37 - $40 an hour - Contract
