Job description
We are seeking a AFSIM Engineer to develop models and operational scenarios using AFSIM in support of U.S. Department of Defense programs. This is a hands-on role focused on writing C++ code and AFSIM scripting to implement platform behaviors, system logic, and mission scenarios. The position involves developing AFSIM plug-ins and extensions, scripting scenario execution and automation, and building reliable, reusable simulation components for ground, air, space, and multi-domain operations. The ideal candidate has strong C++ and AFSIM scripting skills, experience with Modeling & Simulation, and the ability to translate real-world system concepts into clean, testable simulation software in a mission-focused environment., * Develop and implement AFSIM entities, behaviors, and mission scenarios using C++ and AFSIM scripting to model real-world military systems and operations.
- Develop and maintain AFSIM plug-ins and extensions.
- Configure mission-level representations of platforms, sensors, weapons, networks, and command and control systems to assess operational effectiveness, system integration, and vulnerabilities.
- Collaborate with operational and technical subject matter experts to translate system knowledge, engineering data, and limited or incomplete information into practical simulation models using sound engineering judgment.
- Build and integrate capabilities within a larger system-of-systems environment supporting large-scale mission and campaign analysis.
- Manage tasks independently, communicate regularly with customers, and deliver usable capabilities on schedule-prioritizing mission value over unnecessary model complexity.
- Support model verification and validation, technical documentation, and customer briefings.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Version control systems?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, * Active Secret security clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Operations Research, or related field.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience using (AFSIM scripting and C++ preferred).
- Hands-on experience developing or applying AFSIM, including scenario development and behavior implementation.
- Experience with Modeling & Simulation for system-level or mission-level analysis.
- Experience with Linux build environments.
- Proficiency with Git or other version control systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- The ability to come on site if needed in the Reston, VA area., * Active TS/SCI clearance.
- Familiarity with MBSE/SysML and translating architecture artifacts into simulations.
- Knowledge of air, ground, space, missile, ISR, electronic warfare, or multi-domain operations.
- Experience with Python or MATLAB for automation and data analysis.
- Experience with DevSecOps, automated testing, or CI/CD in a government environment., * Do you have a BS, MS, or Ph.D. in software engineering or computer science?
