Job description

The engineer will work with modern DevSecOps, DataOps, and cloud-native technologies to maintain, enhance, automate, and deploy secure software artifacts into the Unified Cloud Architecture through established CI/CD pipelines. Deployments may support multiple security enclaves, including NIPRNet, SIPRNet, and JWICS, as well as DAF CLOUDworks or other government-approved cloud architectures., * Maintain, sustain, and enhance operational software services supporting the Foundation and Integration Collection.

  • Support cloud-native platform services, including: o Kafka-based message bus services o Logging, telemetry, and observability services o Workflow services using Argo or similar tools o Database management services o Session management services o Security marking services o Serverless and Function-as-a-Service capabilities

  • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot CI/CD pipelines for secure deployment of software artifacts into government cloud environments.
  • Deploy and manage containerized workloads using Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, and/or AWS EKS.
  • Develop Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, and related automation tools.
  • Build, operate, and maintain data pipelines using Kafka, Debezium, PostgreSQL, MySQL, S3, RDS, Lambda, SNS, and related AWS services.
  • Design, tune, and maintain relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora, Oracle, MongoDB, and AWS RDS-based services.
  • Support database migration, backup, replication, disaster recovery, and point-in-time recovery activities.
  • Develop automation scripts and backend services using Python, Bash, SQL, PL/pgSQL, Node.js, and related technologies.
  • Support ETL/ELT workflows, data ingestion, data transformation, and downstream API integration.
  • Configure and maintain observability and logging stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, Filebeat, Loki, or similar tools.
  • Support secure software delivery in accordance with DoD, IC, RMF, ICD-503, NIST SP 800-53, STIG, and continuous monitoring requirements.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, data engineers, cybersecurity teams, system administrators, mission stakeholders, and government technical leads.
  • Produce technical documentation, SOPs, deployment notes, architecture diagrams, and operational support artifacts.
  • Troubleshoot production issues across cloud infrastructure, containers, databases, pipelines, APIs, and mission applications.

Requirements

This position is ideal for a hands-on engineer with strong experience in Kafka, Kubernetes, AWS GovCloud, Terraform, CloudFormation, PostgreSQL, Python, Bash, SQL, Docker, GitLab/GitHub CI/CD, OpenShift, ETL/ELT pipelines, and secure DoD cloud environments., * Active TS/SCI clearance.

  • Ability to work onsite/hybrid in Dayton, OH; remote-only candidates will not be considered.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of relevant experience in data engineering, DevSecOps, software engineering, cloud engineering, or platform engineering.
  • Strong hands-on experience with AWS commercial, AWS GovCloud, or classified cloud environments.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, container orchestration, and containerized application deployment.
  • Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Argo CD, Argo Workflows, OpenShift pipelines, or similar tools.
  • Experience with Kafka, event-driven architecture, message streams, or data ingestion pipelines.
  • Strong experience with SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, or AWS RDS.
  • Experience with Python and Bash scripting for automation, data processing, and operational support.
  • Experience developing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, or similar tools.
  • Experience operating in secure DoD or IC environments subject to RMF, NIST SP 800-53, ICD-503, or STIG requirements.
  • Strong Linux troubleshooting and system administration skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues clearly to engineering teams, leadership, and government stakeholders.

Desired Qualifications

  • Security+ or other DoD 8140/8570-compliant certification.
  • Experience supporting NASIC, Air Force, DIA, CDAO, or other DoD/IC mission environments.
  • Experience with AWS EKS, ECS Fargate, Lambda, S3, RDS, SNS, EMR, Glue, Route 53, ALB, IAM, and GovCloud VPCs.
  • Experience with Debezium, Kafka Connect, CDC pipelines, Spark, Scala, Apache NiFi, Livy, Hive, Atlas, Superset, Zeppelin, or YuniKorn.
  • Experience with OpenShift Kubernetes in accredited production environments.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL high availability, logical replication, backup/recovery, performance tuning, pgVector, stored procedures, and normalized schema design.
  • Experience supporting AI/ML or data science platforms such as JupyterHub, Nebari, Conda, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or GPU/CUDA-enabled environments.
  • Experience with service mesh, mTLS, or zero-trust architectures using Istio, NGINX, AWS Private CA, or related technologies.
  • Experience with observability platforms including Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, Loki, Filebeat, or Kibana.
  • Experience supporting REST APIs, backend integration, ORMs, SQLAlchemy, Sequelize, Node.js, or Python-based services.
  • Experience writing SOPs, deployment guides, architecture documentation, and accreditation support artifacts.

Work Environment This role supports secure mission systems in classified and government cloud environments. Candidates must be comfortable working in an Agile, collaborative engineering environment with government and contractor teams. The position requires an onsite/hybrid presence in Dayton, Ohio, with work performed in accordance with government security, access, and facility requirements.

Preferred Candidate Profile The preferred candidate is a senior hands-on engineer who can bridge data engineering, DevSecOps, cloud infrastructure, and secure software operations. The candidate should be able to troubleshoot across the full stack, automate repeatable processes, harden deployments, sustain production systems, and deliver minor enhancements without disrupting mission operations.
