Job description

The Telecom Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, operation, optimization, and security of the company’s telecommunications network infrastructure. This position supports carrier, business, and residential services by maintaining highly available IP, optical, transport, voice, and access networks while planning future network growth and technology evolution., * Network Engineering

  • Design, deploy, and maintain IP/MPLS, Ethernet, fiber, transport, and access networks.
  • Engineer routing and switching infrastructure for reliability and performance.
  • Configure and maintain carrier-class routers, switches, firewalls, and optical transport equipment.
  • Support GPON/XGS-PON, Ethernet and transport technologies.
  • Develop network standards and engineering documentation.
  • Network Operations
  • Monitor network health, capacity, utilization, and performance.
  • Respond to outages and participate in incident response.
  • Troubleshoot complex network issues.
  • Perform software upgrades and maintenance.
  • Coordinate maintenance windows.
  • Infrastructure Planning
  • Evaluate future network requirements.
  • Develop capacity plans.
  • Recommend equipment upgrades and technology refreshes.
  • Assist with budgeting for network expansion.
  • Security
  • Maintain secure network architecture.
  • Configure firewalls and access controls.
  • Implement best practices for cybersecurity.
  • Assist with vulnerability remediation.
  • Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
  • Carrier and Business Services
  • Support DIA, Layer 2 transport, MPLS/VPLS, SIP, hosted voice, and enterprise networking services.
  • Coordinate interconnections with upstream carriers and peering partners.
  • Support customer turn-ups and complex business installations.
  • Documentation
  • Maintain accurate network diagrams.
  • Document configurations and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain IP addressing and inventory databases.
  • Document changes through change management processes.
  • Collaboration
  • Work with outside vendors and equipment manufacturers.
  • Assist Customer Support with advanced technical issues.
  • Support Field Operations during network deployments.
  • Provide technical leadership on engineering projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Network Engineering, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of telecommunications or network engineering experience.
  • Experience supporting carrier-grade network infrastructure.

Strong understanding of:

  • TCP/IPIPv4/IPv6BGPOSPFMPLSVLANsQoS
  • VPN technologies
  • Ethernet services

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to diagnose complex network issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong documentation practices.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally lift over 50 pounds.
  • Travel to remote facilities as needed.
  • Occasional after-hours maintenance and emergency response.
